WOLFE: Conservatives coming out next week

This coming week the Brandeis Republicans are planning a variety of events for Conservative coming out week. Because Republicans at Brandeis are one of the smallest minorities on campus, the week intends to show all Brandeis Republicans that there are indeed others who share in their beliefs. To kick off this busy week, on Monday night there will be a speech by Boston Globe columnist Cathy Young. Born in Russia, in 1963, Young came to the United States in 1980, and eventually wrote two books titled Ceasefire: Why Women and Men Must Join Forces to Achieve True Equality, and, Growing up in Moscow: Memories of a Soviet Girlhood.

Tuesday Night, there will be session on the liberal bias present on most college campuses. A movie called Brainwashing 101 will be viewed, followed by a discussion with Professor Jerry Cohen. On Wednesday night there will be a session about managing campaigns, and students will be encouraged to Come See Ann Coulter on Thursday evening. The week will conclude with the sending of a Brandeis Republicans delegation to the annual convention of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans, where students will meet Governor Mitt Romney and White House Chief of Staff Andy Card.

The Republicans acknowledge that many students on campus disagree with their view points, but they are still hoping that the student body will be open to meaningful dialogue, and will come hear their perspective. They are hoping that a free marketplace of ideas can exist on this campus, and that people keep their minds open to what the republicans have to say. All and all, they are looking forward to what should be a very interesting week.
