Ballroom Dancers rock MITs Rockwell Cage

Art and sport were merged potently together at the 2005 MIT Open Ballroom Dance held April 2nd & 3rd, 2005 at Rockwell Gymnasium on MITs campus in Cambridge, MA. In a two day dance off with more intense strutting than the famous movie duel between Derek Zoolander and rival male model, Hansel;

24 Brandeis students were judged against competitors from 34 colleges at the seasons final competition. The prestige of the event attracted competitors with participating teams as far flung as University of Michigan and some of the top talent in Collegiate Ballroom Dance.

Gospel Extravaganza leaves some in tears

Good news! You passed your midterm. Good news! She said yes. Good news! Your dad made it through surgery;

hes going to be fine.

How did you feel when you last heard really good news? Try to remember. Dont even try to describe;

just feel it. Now how about this:

Good news! You are saved.

VERBATIM

The following e-mail was sent to Union President Jenny Feinberg07 by Joshua Louis Simon 07 regarding IPTV. It is presented here without comment.

FARBER: Fe-males with brass fingernails

People often ask me, Rafi, what is the meaning of Fife? To which I answer, almost without thinking due to my instantaneous wolf-like instincts honed by countless years of training in the area despite the fact that Im only 21 and if any amount of years of training that I have ever had in any one area are countless to you then you are probably not intelligent enough to finish reading this sentence, Fife-is-a-region-of-eastern-Scotland-between-the-Firths-of-Forth-and-Tay! It-was-once-a-Pict-kingdom!

LETTER: Rumors about pre-meds false

As many Brandeis students and prospective students know, there are a good number of pre-meds with high goals and lofty dreams right here at Brandeis. You may not recognize them at first, but they are there, walking the same paths from their dorms to class that you take. You may not notice them because they really are not that all that different from any other Brandeis student. Many people have the false belief that pre-meds are crazy and pull all-nighters studying to get that A. In reality, however, pre-meds at Brandeis are not your typical cutthroat competitive students running towards the gates of medical school.

LE: Students bring smiles to Vietnamese poor

This past Christmas and New Year season, the lives of 280 poor Vietnamese children have been touched by endless efforts, love and financial support from Brandeis in many ways.

LETTER: A More Perfect survey? Not quite.

I was recently contacted and asked to participate in a survey on club funding for the Student Union AMP Task Force. As I read the very first question, I felt that the survey was already starting off on the wrong foot. It began:

GOLDSTEIN: Justice theatre reviews insulting, poorly written

I dont envy the position of the arts critics here at Brandeis;

those who choose to write for The Justice, or more recently, The Hoot, about the many theatre and music events on campus have their work cut out for them. Talented critics are sharp, concise but effectively spoken, observant, informed about both the work with which they are presented and the works that relate to it and objective about their study difficult traits to cultivate without serious experience or guidance. And as our university lacks an intensive journalism program, little training for newspaper staff writers, and few if any classes on film, theatre or music criticism, it is difficult to find a place on-campus to develop the necessary skills to write a solid newspaper critique of an arts production.

EDITORIAL: Things not well at the Justice

For the first time in a very long time the Justice will have no seniors graduating off the Justice editorial board. All members from the Class of 2005 have (with the exception of one who will by next week) quit the board in disagreement over the way the Justice has been managed over the past year.

NEWS RELEASE: BTV gets studio space

After finalizing the details of an agreement with Residence Life in the late afternoon on Thursday, BTV proudly announces the acquisition of a space in Ziv Commons to use as a semi-permanent studio space for live programming. BTV will be moving in and equipping the space through the end of this year, and into next semester. This is a great time in the history of BTV. With the capability to broadcast and record from a designated studio space, the improvements to BTV that students have seen throughout the year will accelerate at an even greater pace. Its a victory, and a proud moment for BTV.

Conservative coming out week

Like many small, liberal-arts colleges in the Northeast, a majority of Brandeis students are liberal Democrats. However, this week is Conservative Coming-Out Week, featuring a series of events designed to bolster awareness that Brandeis has a conservative community. According to self reported political affiliations on thefacebook.com, which about half of Brandeis students are part of, there are about 1148 liberal leaning Brandeis students registered and about 149 conservative.

SMR system changed

The Union Senate changed the Senate Money Request (SMR) system in a by-law passed by a vote of 12 to five at the March 20 Senate meeting. Previously, any club or person who needed funding could bring an SMR to the Senate requesting the funding. The newly passed by-law only allows Student Union officers and the members of Senate committees to bring SMRs. This means any club wishing to request money from the Senate must now get one of these individuals to do it for them.

LETTER: Fair trade did release poll results

Contrary to what The Hoot stated in an article in the March 25 edition, the Fair Trade Brigade released the results of the elections poll on switching to all fair trade coffee almost immediately after the poll closed.

WRITER'S BLOCK: Saying goodbye to summer camp

I think that I can now say with authority that weve finally rounded the bend and begun that annual slide into spring. My sweaters are long gone. Boots are out, flip flops are in. It wont be long before were staring out the window during our classes, longing to be out in the sun getting some color into our pale, winterized skin, playing basketball or going for a walk. I dont know about you, but Ive made a conscious effort to bank my unexcused absences for this time of year, when an extra hour or two in the afternoon will be greatly enjoyed.
