Brandeis News in Brief

Maggie Balch, Director of Residence Life, has been selected as Brandeis new Assistant Dean of Student Life. The announcement was made Thursday in an email to the community authored by Dean of Student Life Rick Sawyer.

Maggie will continue to fulfill her duties while assembing a search for her replacement. Students who wish to be a part of the search should contact Balch, according to the Sawyer email.

The Main Library is expanding its hours on weekends. Goldfarb and Farber libraries will be open on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM. The hour expansion will take place next semester.

The Student Union Senate passed a bylaw amendment last month that changed the number of signatures required to recognize and charter clubs.

10 signatures are now required for clubs seeking to be recognized instead of 5. Clubs seeking to be chartered need 15 members (up from 10) and 135 additional student signatures (up from 90).

The new bylaw also requires that all student clubs have a copy of their constitutions available online through myBrandeis. All current clubs will be required to do so by March 15, 2006.

Adam Gartner 07, Senator for Ziv Quad, believes these changes will be beneficial. We are trying to build stronger and more stable clubs on campus, said Gartner.
