The Brandeis mens soccer team split two decisions this week, falling to Rochester and defeating Newbury College in the two teams first ever meeting.
The Judges beat the Newbury College Nighthawks, 2-1, on October 10. Brandeis improved their record to 5-4-3 by scoring a pair of first half goals. Ben Premo 09 scored the games first goal in the 17th minute. Mike Snyder 07 crossed the ball to Patrick Metelus 10, who then found Premo for the goal. It was Premos 10th goal of the season, a team high.
Yuval Ezer 07 put what turned out to be the game winning goal into the net less than five minute later. Scott Zackaroff 07 chipped the ball over the defense to Ezer who then shot the ball into the right side of the net for his second goal of the season.
Newbury, 3-7-1, was out-shot 27-9, but still managed to make a game of it. The Nighthawks were able to cut the lead in the second half. Chad DAncona took the ball at midfield and carried up the middle and shot it right past keeper Josh Bellet 10.
The Brandeis mens soccer team fell 3-0 to the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium last Saturday, October 7. Rochester was able to take an early 2-0 lead with goals from Patrick Ripp and Neil Osuch. The two players scored only four minutes apart in the first half.
J.J. Dennstedt added the third and final goal for the Yellow Jackets in the closing minutes of the game. Rochester improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-1 in UAA play. Brandeis dropped to 4-4-3 and is now 0-2 in the UAA.
Ripp opened the scoring with a goal 14:19 into the game. He took a free kick from the left wing into the far right corner of the goal. Osuch ran towards the ball and was able to partially screen Brandeis goalie, Taylor Bracken 10, and the ball slid under his dive. Osuch made it 2-0 only 4:15 later. Tyler Green headed the ball across the penalty box and Osuch chipped it to the top corner of the net. Dennstedt added his first goal in the 81st minute.
Brandeis hosts a key University Athletic Association (UAA) match at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night against UAA foe Carnegie Mellon University. A win against Carnegie-Mellon will be the Judges first UAA victory, having lost to Case Western and Rochester earlier in the season.
