‘Deis men continue to surge

The Judges have continued their surging season, knocking down two UAA foes to claim a winning division record.

Four Brandeis players reached double figures in point scoring as the Judges defeated Emory 74-50. After some early back and forth with Brandeis taking a slim, 8-7 lead, the Judges went on a 14-2 run to take a 22-9 lead and never once looked back with the lead never dropping below double digits.

Steve DeLuca 08 led the Brandeis charge with 19 points. Rookie guard Kenny Small 10 used three three pointer shots to reach a career high 13 points off the bench and pulled down seven rebounds, also a career high. Fellow rookie guard Andre Roberson 10 got his first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Rounding off the offensive attack was Florian Rexhepi 08 who scored Brandeiss first eight points and finished the game with 10. Brandeis also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Emory 48-32.

The win came shortly after Brandeis notched their second straight UAA victory, drubbing Case Western 85-68. Deadly shooting in the first half, 57% to be exact, gave Brandeis a quick lead. Case managed to come within nine to close the first half but Brandeis was not to be denied and a 10-3 run made that a fact.

Rookie forward Terrell Hollins 10 led Brandeis with 15 points and six rebounds. Twelve of his points came in the second half alone. Rexhepi had 14 points and DeLuca provided 12 of his own. Helping to lead the offense was Kwame Graves-Fulgham 08 who had six assists and three steals.

With three straight wins, the Judges are now 3-2 within the UAA and are making themselves known. It only gets harder though as they take on the division leader, number 10 ranked Washington University tonight in St. Louis. Then they pack up again for Chicago as they take on Chicago University.

As the saying goes, the ball is in their court. What they do with it as the competition gets steadily tougher will be interesting for all of us at Brandeis to watch.
