Men’s soccer defeats Springfield, women ‘s team shuts out Bowdoin

The men’s soccer squad capped off regular season home play with a 3-1 win against Springfield College on Wednesday.

The win brings the Judges record to 8-4-1. Luke Teece ’12 started off the action when he scored in the 12th minute off a pass from Captain Kyle Gross ’11.

The goal was Teece’s ninth of the year, enough to lead the University Athletic Association (UAA) in goals.

Also contributing to the scoring was junior forward Alexander Farr’s goal in the 32nd minute off an assist from Theo Terris ’12.

At the end of the game, the Judges added an extra goal, with Joe Eisenbies putting in his fifth goal of the season in the 56th minute.

The Springfield Pride responded when Jake Miskin ’13 was able to capture off of a cross-kick in the 89th minute.

Judges goalie Taylor Bracken ’12 had four saves during the win.

On Monday, the Judges will resume play at Lasell College at 3:30 p.m.

After facing Lasell the Judges will hit the road for three UAA games against Washington University (St. Louis) on Oct. 29 and University of Chicago on Oct. 31. On Nov. 6, the Judges will face league-rival NYU.

The women’s team beat Bowdoin College in a 1-0 shutout at home on Wedensday.

The Bowdoin Polar Bears managed to get off eight shots in the first period, while the Judges took seven.

In the 31st minute, the Judges scored as Kelly Peterson ’14 put a header in the goal off of a corner kick assist from Taryn Martiniello ’11.

That was all the scoring in the contest Wedesnday, but the Judges did fire off eight shots compared to Bowdoin’s four in the second half.

Judges goalie Francine Kofinas ’13 had six saves in the game and her 63 saves in total for the season put her in second place in the UAA.

On Saturday, the Judges will face Trinity College at Bowdoin. On Oct. 26 they will play Lesley College at home.
