Editors-in-Chief

Hannah Schuster began writing for The Hoot her first semester on campus and then served as a News Editor before becoming editor-in-chief. She has also been dancing for many years and is the co-president of the Ballet Club and a member of the Adagio Dance Company. Hannah is majoring in American Studies with a double minor in journalism and French. Last Spring, she studied abroad in Paris.

Emily Sorkin Smith has been writing for the News section since her first year and joined Hannah as co-News Editor her sophomore year. Emily majors in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies with a Hispanic Studies minor. She spent her junior year abroad in Amman, Jordan.    

Senior Managing Editor

Allison Plotnik started at The Hoot as a copy editor. She still copy edits and acts as treasurer for The Hoot. Allison is a sociology and education studies major and is also the UDR for the sociology department. She studied abroad last spring in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Senior Editor

Sarah Jousset is the Senior Editor at The Hoot. She is a senior, double majoring in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and International and Global Studies. She was the sports editor for nearly four years, having been named to the position at the beginning of her first year. She is on Banshee (the women’s Ultimate Frisbee team) and has two jobs on campus. Last spring, Sarah studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland.

Copy Editor

Emily Botto is a sophomore who started as a copy editor at The Hoot during her first year at Brandeis. She is a Communications Independent Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) and business major. She is also a member of the Brandeis Gymnastics Club.

News Editors

Celia Young is the News Editor for the hoot, having written for the news section her first semester.  She is taking over for Elliana Spitzer, who is studying abroad in The Hague, The Netherlands. She is considering double minoring in journalism and law and in addition to working at The Hoot, she is also a member of Brandeis’ Mock Trial team.

Opinions Editor

Katarina Weessies is the Opinions section editor. She is a senior, majoring in politics and English. She has been writing for The Hoot since her first year at Brandeis. In addition to her work with The Hoot, she is a member of the Brandeis Quiz Bowl Team.

Arts Editors

Ben Beriss is the co-arts editor for The Hoot. He started writing theater critique for The Hoot during his first semester after writing for several organizations before coming to Brandeis. He hoes to major in economics, with a double minor in philosophy and theater.

Rebecca Goldfarb is a first year student and a brand new arts editor for The Hoot. She started writing for The Hoot this year, during her first semester. She hopes to major in business and minor in journalism. In addition to The Hoot, she is super involved with the marketing and Springfest planning committees on CAB and assists with sound for the theatre productions.

Features Editor

Polina Potochevska is the editor of the Features section of the Hoot. She started writing for Features in the fall of her first year, and hopes to major in English and Creative Writing. In addition to writing for The Hoot, she dances with Adagio Dance Company and the Brandeis Ballet Club.

Sara McCrea is the Deputy Features Editor of The Hoot. She is a first year student hoping to major in English and Creative Writing and minor in Journalism. Outside of The Hoot, Sara sings in the a cappella group Up the Octave.

Sports Editors

Zach Cihlar is the editor of the Sports section. He has been writing for Sports since his first year and joined the editorial board his sophomore year. Besides working on The Hoot, he plays for the varsity tennis team, gives tours through undergraduate admissions and volunteers for ACEing Autism. He is a junior majoring in economics.

Shea Decker-Jacoby is the editor of the Sports section. She has been writing for Sports since his first year and joined the editorial board her junior year. Besides working for The Hoot, she plays for the women’s volleyball team and is an editor for the Brandeis Law Journal.

Photography Editor

Yarisa Diaz is The Hoot’s photography editor. She is a sophomore majoring in psychology. She joined The Hoot her second semester of Brandeis and became Photos Editors her second year at Brandeis. Yarisa is also the secretary of No Singer Clef Behind, a member of the Martin Luther King Jr. Fellowship advisory board, and a Peer Mentor for the Student Support Services Program.

Layout Editor

Candace Ng is is The Hoot’s layout editor. She is a sophomore majoring in psychology and minoring in German studies. She joined The Hoot in her first semester at Brandeis and became deputy layout editor her second semester. Outside of The Hoot, Candace works as a Community Advisor for the Department of Community Living and is on the executive board of Cru Brandeis.

Editors-at-Large

Sarah Terrazano  started copy editing her first semester on campus and sometimes switches gears to write articles. You can also find her working behind the circulation desk at the library or tap dancing with Hooked on Tap. Sarah is an English major with minors in Hispanic Studies and CAST.

Elianna Spitzer was The Hoot’s News editor. She began writing for The Hoot her first semester at Brandeis. She is involved in Mock Trial and works at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism. Elianna is a double major in politics and American Studies. She is studying abroad in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Ryan Spencer has been working for The Hoot since his first semester on campus. He is studying abroad in London.

Katie Decker-Jacoby was the Arts Editor is a junior majoring in American Studies and minoring in journalism. Katie began writing for The Hoot in the first semester of her sophomore year. She has also been the publicity coordinator for Cupcake Obsession Club and the co-editor for Archon Yearbook. Katie is studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Abigail Gardener was a News editor. She is a junior majoring in English. She began writing for The Hoot her first semester at Brandeis and became a deputy News editor her second semester. Abigail is also a coordinator for Companions to Elders in the Waltham Group and works as a community partner liaison in the Department of Community Service. She is studying abroad in Seville, Spain.
