FRC: NEJS cuts need more study

The FRC recommended for the elimination of 2 FTEs in NEJS. However, they cautioned against eliminating other positions due to a lack of understanding of how the newly created Crown Center for Middle East Studies fits in with NEJS. Thus the FRC recommended that the further reduction in FTEs proposed by the Jaffe be postponed until a careful analysis can be made of the relationship between NEJS and the Crown Center.

We urge the department to engage in additional self-analysis of its three graduate programs, to explore the possibility of more intense self-promotion and recruitment at the graduate level, and to seek ways to unify the disciplinary and topical diversity that are the hallmark of this unique department, the FRC wrote.
