Baseball

On September 14th, Roger Clemens mother Bess died after a long battle with emphysema. Roger decided to dedicate his start later that night to his mother. He gave up one run in six and a third innings pitched and got the win. His team rallied after he left to win the game 10-2. Clemens had hoped his mother would live to see him inducted into the hall of fame, and that had been a factor in thinking about retirement.
Mike Hampton will have Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of this season and next season. He has been troubled by his elbow for several months. Hampton and the Braves decided that he should sit out all of next season in order to get his entire body healthy, including possibly surgery on his knee. Hampton is signed with Atlanta through 2008.

All-star second baseman Brian Roberts will miss the rest of the season due to a dislocated elbow. He injured it while covering first on a bunt attempt.
Sean Casey will most likely sit the rest of the season after sustaining a concussion following a collision at first base a week ago.

Football

The NFL is preparing a backup plan to have the New Orleans Saints play at LSU next season. The Superdome in New Orleans may not be repaired by the start of the next season. The Saints are playing four of their home games at LSU this year.

Basketball

The New Orleans Hornets have found a home this season. The team reached an agreement with Oklahoma City to play 35 of their home games in the city.
The remaining six will be played in Louisiana.

Hockey

Peter Bondra has signed with the Atlanta Thrashers. His contract is heavily laced with incentives. Bondra has spent most of his career so far with Washington, scoring an average of 34 goals a year for 14 seasons.

College Football

Tulane lost a heartbreaker in their first game of the season. After Tulane and MSU held each other scoreless in the first half, both teams scored 14 points, but MSU got one final touchdown and held Tulane for the victory. After hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, Tulanes team has been homeless.
