After a tough stretch of losses against nationally ranked opponents, the Brandeis womens soccer team finally managed to put another win onto their record with a 1-0 victory over St. Josephs College last Saturday. The win lifts the Judges over the .500 mark, (7-6-1, 1-3-0 UAA) and gives them a small measure of momentum as they head into the final three games of the season. Remaining on the schedule are home games against UAA rivals Washington University, University of Chicago, and New York University. The Judges have not had much luck within their conference this year, coming away with just one win in four matches.

After an overtime loss to Emory five days earlier, the Judges took to the field against St. Josephs, and for eighty-seven minutes the game remained scoreless. However, this time an extra period was unnecessary, as Lisa Kaplin 07 scored her seventh goal of the season on a Lauren Gregor 06 assist to give Brandeis the win. The entire game was as close as the final score indicates, as the Judges out-shot the Monks by a slim 15 -11 margin, and each team saw an equal number of corner kicks.

Brandeis was forced to play this match without many of its regular players, as Lizzie Bremner 08, Brittany Douglass 07, co-captain Rachel Koffman 06, and Christine Fulton 07 were all forced to miss the match due to injury. With so many players missing, Coach Denise Dallamora opted to use only three players across the back line, instead of the usual four. Margot Moinester 09, Kalina Ehrenreich-Piot 08, and Melissa Gordon 07 did an admirable job keeping St. Josephs off of the scoreboard, and goaltender Betsey Medow 08 made three saves to register her fourth shutout of the season.

In other womens soccer news, the October 28th game against Washington University will take place at 7:30, under the lights. The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 1:30. Also, last Tuesdays game against Plymouth State University was cancelled due to the weather. The match will not be rescheduled.
