This past week saw the kickoff of the Brandeis swim teams dual meets. On Oct. 26, the mens and womens teams competed against Boston Colleges swim teams. Boston College won both meets. On Oct. 29, Brandeis swept the Keene State College swim teams.
The womens team dominated Keene State College (120-104) in a similar fashion to how Boston College dominated Brandeis a few days prior. Brandeis clinched victory after the tenth of thirteen events. Brandeis won eight of the first ten events, including the 400-yard medley relay to start the meet. Sharon Makowsky 06 won three events: The 200-yard butterfly, the 200-yard individual medley, and the 500-yard freestyle. Charlotte Rea 08 won the 50-yard freestyle and the 1-meter diving. Sarah Evans 06 won the 100-yard freestyle and Keara DeKay 08 won the 1000-yard freestyle.
The mens team beat Keene State by a score of 124-93. Keene State took an early lead and held its largest lead at 14 points after the 1000-yard freestyle. Hal Grossman 07 led the quick comeback by finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle. In the fourth event, Todd Berman 07 won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.55, pushing the Brandeis swimmers into a lead they would keep the rest of the way. Grossman later won the 100-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Ross Gercenstein 06 won the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly, and Ahskan Hamzelou 08 won both 1-meter diving events.
The womens swim team lost 157 to 118 against Boston College. Boston College led from the beginning and their lead only increased throughout the meet. Brandeis won only two of the fifteen events. Makowsky won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.75, while Lalin Anik 06 won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.06.
The mens varsity swim team lost to Boston College by a score of 154-101. Brandeis was only down by two points after the second event, the 100-yard breaststroke, which Mathew Lerman 07 won with a time of 1:04.90. Then Berman won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.69, putting Brandeis within one point of Boston College. Berman later won the 200-yard breaststroke as well, but then Boston College dominated the 1000-yard freestyle event and maintained a large lead the rest of the way. Brandeis won only one other event. Grossman won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.46. Boston College finished first, second and third in five of the fifteen events.
