As visitors approach the entrance to the exhibit, the tinkling of water from the fountain in the outer hall begins to die away. Instead, deep male voices resonate from far inside the exhibit, issuing propaganda relics from the times of Nixon and Johnson, among others. The voices beckon one to the exhibit Balance and Power: Performance and Surveillance in Video Art, currently featured at the Rose Art Museum.
Feeling the Flavor
This Sunday marks the end of the second season of one of the most glorious television programs ever created, Flavor of Love. Before you start thinking that the previous sentence was just an ironic statement about the declining state of American popular culture, let me clarify: I actually love Flavor of Love. By far the pinnacle of VH-1s seemingly never-ending stable of celeb-reality shows, Flavor is everything that an hour of mindless entertainment should be.
Directing Laramie
This week Michael Carnow 07, director of Brandeis Ensemble Theatres production of The Laramie Project that will begin the Undergraduate Theatre Collectives mainstage season, was kind enough to spare a few minutes for an interview with The Hoot.
The Last Kiss doesn't come in last
There are some movies that make you laugh, cry and unbelievably angry. And if its a good movie, it has the ability to make you feel all three. The Last Kiss, starring Zach Braff, Jacinda Barrett and Rachel Bilson, is one of those movies. This Garden State-like film is perfect for college students and anyone in their 20s and 30s.

Although its beginning to get cold, the music world is just heating up, with a bevy of new releases and upcoming concerts flooding the ears of everyone. Here is a little sample of whats new, whats coming up, and what to listen for:
Taking control of birth control
Q: I missed my pill yesterday, what should I do?
A: Though they dont protect you from STDs, birth control pills are a great method of contraception. Unfortunately, they can be a little confusing at times. The most important part of making birth control pills work for you is remembering to take them at the same time every day. Some people find it helps to do it right when they wake up, others dont like this method because they do not always wake up at the same time every day. Some choose to take it before they go to bed, or even set an alarm on their cell phone to remind them. Choose whatever system works best for you, but be prepared for the fact that youll probably fuck it up every now and then. After all, you go to Brandeis. Youre a busy person.
WVolleyball: Judges fall 1-3 to Tufts
The team also competed Tuesday night against Tuft University. After winning their first match, the Judges fell to Tufts as they rallied to a 3-1 victory. Two of the matches were very close and the Judges had individual standouts. Shannon Trees 08 had a team leading 39 digs in the four game exhibition and Piera Carfagno 10 had 3 block assist and 15 kills. Teammate Ashley Powers 08 led the team with four blocks this Tuesday.
Cross-Country takes 20th in men’s and women’s competitions
After taking last weekend off from competitions, the men and womens varsity cross country teams had a great showing this weekend at the New England College Cross Country Championships. The Mens team was able to place 20th overall at this race while achieving the 8th highest point total of any division three team at the meet. The women were similarly 20th at the meet with a ranking of 9th out of all the division three squads present this Saturday. The teams achieved stand-out performances on the Franklin Park course for both the Mens and Womens squads.
MIT hacks WTennis into submission 2-7
Womens tennis finished their second to last match of the fall season on a sour note, dropped like a Bjorn Borg shot, 2-7 by MIT. The loss drops the Judges to 2-3 and now has only the Hewitt Tournament next week to try to rectify their season.
Premo wins 3rd UAA Athlete of the Week Award
Ben Premos 09 exceptionally strong performance this past week did not go unnoticed as the University Athletic Association (UAA) named him Mens Soccers Offensive Player of the Week ending September 8th.
MSoccer kicks away Newbury
The Brandeis mens soccer team split two decisions this week, falling to Rochester and defeating Newbury College in the two teams first ever meeting.
