Mike Snyder and the entire Brandeis womens backfield starters were honored with the UAA Athlete of the Week Awards.
Snyder was honored for his offensive outburst during the Judges final two home games. After scoring the final goal against Springfield College, Snyder broke loose during the 9-0 rout of Colby-Sawyer, picking up the hat trick and assist. Snyder is currently second on the team in scoring with 17 points scoring seven goals including a team-leading 3 game winners. The team is currently 9-5-3 after their victory over Lasell and face a tough three-game road swing against conference foes Washington University (October 27), Chicago (October 29), and finishing with New York University (November 4).
The Brandeis defense, consisting of Brittany Douglass 07, Christine Fulton 07, Melissa Gordon 07, and rookie Abby Shields 10 held St. Josephs College to only six shots, two of which were on goal, in a 3-0 rout. With four different goalies used, the Judges have five shutouts and surrendered only a goal in six other matches.
When asked what this meant about the team, Coach Denise Dallamora replied, I guess it says that defensively, you cant do it on your own. Obviously, the whole team has to work as a unit but the back four is kind of the separate unit within the unit and if ones playing really well and three arent, there are going to be a lot of problems.
Womens soccer heads off on the road with the mens team facing the same conference foes. The Judges are currently 8-3-3 with a 1-0-3 record in UAA play. With enough wins, the team is looking at a likely ECAC playoff birth.
