To acquire wisdom, one must observe

NBA midseason look

First half MVP: Gilbert Arenas. He is the reason why the Wizards are at least competitive. Take him away and the Wiz are .500 at best. If that doesnt make him an MVP candidate, I dunno what defines most valuable anymore.

Runner-up: Kobe Bryant. Although Steve Nash powers the Suns, Kobe is essentially alone save for the oft-injured Lamar Odom.

Rookie of the Year: Brandon Roy leads rookies in points per game (14.7 ppg) as well as 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Only concern has been the 23 games missed due to injury

Coach of the Year: Mike DAntoni the Suns are the best team in the league and he is a reason.

Surprise Team: The Houston Rockets. After a tumultuous season last year, the team has revamped itself and now currently locked in the ultra competitive West for top representation. While not as flashy as Dallas and Phoenix, they have Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming in there as well as Shane Battier providing valued support from the bench.

Disappointment: Minnesota Timberwolves. I dunno what anyone expected from them but they are a mess and just fired their head coach even though the GM, Kevin McHale is far more deserving. Heads are going to roll.
