Fencing teams victorious with help of standout performances

The Brandeis and MIT mens and womens fencing teams co-hosted an invitational tournament this past Sunday. The competition took place at the facilities of MIT, and teams came from all around the northeast. The University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Duke University were all present at the tournament this weekend and the field was very competitive.

Nevertheless, the Judges posted victories and had individual standouts throughout the day.

The men ended up wining three matches and losing three matches on Sunday. Brandeis was easily able to defeat NYU and Yeshiva and just squeaked by for a victory against University of Pennsylvania with a final tally of 14-13. The team also posted losses against three of the schools competing last weekend. The Judges had wide losses against Princeton and Penn State and just lost against Duke University in a close match. The final score for the two schools was 14-13 as the Blue Devils took the win. The mens team finished even this weekend after intense competitions and close scores.

The womens fencing team did not have as much success this weekend in the Brandeis/MIT Invitational. Out of the other six universities present, the Judges were only to defeat one team. The Judges carried the day over NYU, the only UAA team that was present at the tournament. Their 17-10 win was the deciding factor to proclaim them the UAA champions in fencing. The womens fencing team lost its other five matches, but not without a fight. They fell to Tufts only by a 13-14 final score and had other close calls this weekend. The women still have a championship under their belts and good competition for future meets.

The teams have some championship meets in the future before finishing out their season in over a month. This weekend was good competition for future meets and even concluded with the womens team being named the UAA champions.
