The Brandeis University Judges womens softball team headed down to Altamonte Springs, Florida from March 13-17 where they went 2-6 in UAA Conference play.

The Judges put up an overall dismal performance as they were destroyed by the UAA Conference. The Judges' last four games were particularly horrendous as they were blown out by scores of 2-12, 0-9, 1-9, and 3-12.

The last game of the tournament was against Case Western Reserve University on March 17.

Pitcher Allie Mussen 10 received the loss for the game as she allowed four earned runs in the first inning. She was pulled during the first inning and was replaced by Emily Vaillette 10 who gave up a grand slam in that same first inning.

Case Western scored 11 runs that inning and the game ended under the mercy rule with the Spartans securing victory over the Judges as they beat them 12-3 in four innings of play.

Although as a team our pitching is very strong, we had difficulties settling in over the course of the week, Mussen said. More than just the pitching, the defense as a whole could not settle into the tournament as they gave up an average of seven runs per game. The Judges headed into the Case Western Reserve game coming off a double-header from the day before.

Their first opponent of the day was Washington University. The Judges were shutout in this game. They lost 0-9. The next game was just as disappointing as they were demolished by Emory University, 9-1.

Though the Judges put up a terrible display to open the season, they look to put their wretched start behind them and hopefully have better success throughout the rest of the season. Games scheduled against Simmons College on March 21, MIT on March 22, and Bates College on March 24 have all been postponed due to unplayable field conditions.
