Baseball takes three straight

After missing five straight games due to weather conditions, the Brandeis Judges baseball team got back on the field and was able to continue their season on April 19th. The Judges are now riding a three game winning streak, which is their longest of the season.

Though they have found their winning ways, the distance between the team and the field originally appeared to have a negative effect on the young Judges squad as they reentered the season losing four out of their next five games.

The most devastating of the four recent losses came against Bowdoin College. The Judges had a 5-3 lead when entering the ninth inning, but saw their hopes of a win quickly fade away.

Bowdoin scored their last three runs because three players were hit-by-pitch when the bases were loaded, and were able to walk their runners in. The final two runs were given up by reliever Kyle Ritchie 10 who hit the last two batters of the game and received the loss for the contest.

As devastating as this game was for the young team, they managed to bounce back quickly and have been on a tear as theyve won a season high three straight games.
Their first of these three wins came against Amherst College on April 24th where the Judges had a fantastic eight run sixth inning and defeated Amherst College 11-9.

Despite having eight earned runs, pitcher Tyler Robinson 08 got great support from the Judges bats and received the win after pitching for six innings. The team as a whole batted .350 and received support from outfielder Ben Dashefsky 07 who went 3-5 at the plate and scored two runs.

On April 25th the Judges defeated UMass-Boston 8-5. Pitcher Craig Letendre 08 received the win after pitching for six strong innings, while only giving up three hits, and only allowing one earned run.

The Judges finally extended their longest win streak to three games in a dominant fashion as they destroyed Becker College 10-1 on April 26th.

Drew Brzozowski 10 received the win after pitching 8.1 magnificent innings and only allowing one earned run which came in the top of the seventh inning. Brzozowski retired six players on strikeouts and displayed pitching dominance as he improved his record during his rookie season to 4-1.

The Judges once again had an overall strong batting performance as the entire team had an accumulative batting average of .412.

Brandeis hopes to see their young Judges continue to ride this win streak and end this shaky season on a consistent and high note.
