Four Brandeis athletes awarded UAA “Athlete of the Week”

Four Brandeis athletes in four different sports earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors for the week of September 15. Golfer Lee Bloom ’10, Rachel Rosman ’11 earned her award in tennis, Paige Blasco ’11 had the volleyball honors and Sean O’Hare ’12 earned his first Athlete of the Week honor on the European football field.

Lee Bloom was the first Brandeis athlete to win the Bowdoin College invitational, finishing four shots ahead of the runner-up from Husson College. Bloom’s first tournament victory helped Brandeis pick up third place, their highest ever finish in the Invitational.

Rosman captured the A-Flight championship as she breezed through the first two rounds of the ECAC Open Women’s Championships and needed a super tie breaking third set to claim the championship. Brandeis finished second in the ECAC’s.

Paige Blasco ’11 helped lead the Judge’s volleyball squad to a sweep at the Brandeis Invitational, earning All-Tournament honors, she also led the scoring with 12 kills in the Judges defeat. Blasco tallied up 74 kills on the week, averaging 4.35 per set and was pounding away at opponents with a .325 hitting average, both are team highs. In the tournament, Blasco had a .450 hitting average in the first three matches.

O’Hare earned his honor with three saves against Babson including a point blank shot preserving a then 1-1 tie. The Judges would score twice in under ten minutes giving O’Hare his first collegiate victory.

Congratulations to all the winners and hopefully, these regular season honors will translate into post season awards.
