Sports rundown of the week

For the week of September 3 – 9.

Women’s Cross Country:
The Judges won their first competitive race of the season, a dual meet against the University of Southern Maine, by a score of 15-48. The first five finishers in the 4,000 meter race were all Brandeis runners. Grayce Selig ‘11 was the first to cross the line after 14 minutes and 48 seconds. Hannah Lindholm ’11, Kate Warwick ’12, Erin Bisceglia ’12, and Ali Kirsch ’14 all finished with a time of 16:23 to tie for second place.

Men’s Soccer: After winning both of their games at the Adidas Kickoff Classic in Norton, Mass., the Judges sit at 2-0. They defeated Rutgers-Camden 2-0 Saturday and Curry College by a 4-0 margin on Sunday. Joe Eisenbies ’13 and Luke Teece ’12 scored against Rutgers-Camden to back keeper Taylor Bracken ’11. Bracken and Matt Lynch ’11 combined for the shutout against Curry, with Eisenbies, Teece, Ben Applefield ’14, and Lee Russo ’13 finding the back of the net in Sunday’s contest.

Women’s Soccer: After falling in their season opener, the Judges claimed a win and a tie in the Brandeis Invitational last weekend. Sofia Vallone ’11 netted a pair and Hilary Andrews ’14 and Ali Maresca ’13 contributed to the offensive onslaught as Brandeis routed Babson College 4-0 Saturday. The following day, Brandeis and William Paterson played to a scoreless draw (0-0). In both games, Francine Kofinas ’13 and Leah Sax ’14 split time in net for the Judges.

Volleyball: The Judges won their first two contests in the Springfield College Invitational last weekend, defeating Westfield State 3-1 and Lasell 3-0, before dropping their semifinal match against Roger Williams in straight sets, 3-0. Nicole Smith ’11 led the judges with 25 kills over the three matches while Yael Einhorn ’14 tallied 65 assists and Abby Blasco ’11 40 digs in the Invitational. Brandeis rebounded from the loss with a 3-2 home victory against Wellesley College on Wednesday. The Judges now sit at 4-1 on the season.
