“I strained my patellar tendon [in my knee] so I just wanted to take it slow. I should be back for our next game,” Milo said.
Yovanoff missed the game with the stomach flu.
While their fill-ins performed admirably, they were not enough to overcome the absence of three of the team’s top performers. Josh Jordan ’13 and Alec Siegel ’15 stepped up for the Judges, winning their matches at No.1 singles and /no. 2 singles respectively; however, these were the only matches the Judges won. With the loss, the Judges fell to 2-5 on the season while Bentley improved to 8-4.
Filling in for Milo at No.1 singles, Jordan won a hard-fought match. After dropping the first set 6-2, Jordan rallied to take the second set 6-4 and then gritted the third set out in a match tiebreak 10-7. Siegel did not have as difficult of a time as Jordan did in his match, dispatching his opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to gain his first win at No. 2 singles.
While the Judges were unable to win any of their doubles matches, Michael Secular ’15 and Siegel did put a scare into Bentley’s No.1 doubles team. They could not eke out the win, however, eventually losing 8-6.
Milo touched on some of the struggles the Judges have endured early on in the season, noting: “We have a young team. Experience is a bit of an issue right now. We only have one senior on the team. It’s a bit of a transition year for the team.”
“We just have to continue to improve and gain confidence. I had a lot of confidence in our team going into the season and I still have faith in our team going forward,” he said.
The Judges were supposed to play again this Saturday against Coast Guard, but the match has been postponed until a later date.
The Judges will return to action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they travel to face Babson College.
