A few weeks ago we reviewed Wendy’s new “Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich” and found it questionable at best. We did not get the chance to try its counterpart, the “Hot Honey Biscuit,” since it is only served during breakfast hours (before 10:30 a.m.), and that is just way too early for us. We finally managed to gather the courage (read: John made a 9 a.m. appointment at the bank) to get up that early and try this new sandwich. On the website, it is described as “a crispy, chicken filet, perfectly seasoned and dripping with habanero hot honey sauce on a fluffy buttermilk biscuit. It’ll kick you awake, then kiss you good morning.” It will cost you $3.99 plus tax.

Okay, I am not going to lie, I have been wanting to try this sandwich for weeks (basically ever since we tried the sandwich). My issues with the sandwich were the other toppings, which I didn’t like, so I was excited to try just the chicken and sauce. All my excitement was for nothing. I don’t think I have had a worse item from Wendy’s. Sure, I don’t like their burgers and egg stuff, but that is because I don’t like beef or eggs, and that is a me problem. This sandwich is 100 percent a Wendy’s problem. I like biscuits; the Wendy’s ones are good. I like their chicken, and I thought I liked their hot honey sauce. This sandwich was just weird. It was very sweet with some spice in it. It wasn’t even that spicy. I think the worst part was that this was a sweet chicken sandwich. And not sweet like sweet and sour chicken––that at least has a tang to it. This was just sweet. The worst part is, all the ingredients are good on their own; it was just a horrible way to put together perfectly good food. That was not very good at all––like I would never have this again, even if it were free. Overall, I just do not recommend this sandwich. I don’t even know what to rate it; it was just so bad. I guess it deserves a two out of 10. In case you couldn’t tell, I do not recommend this sandwich.

When we first tried the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, we initially thought that the concept with the sauce along with the chicken and biscuit were a great idea. However, we also agreed that many of the toppings, such as the dill chips, among others, were kind of a strange addition to the sandwich.
We thought that in the breakfast version of the sandwich, if we could remove those extraneous items from the hot honey sandwich and just have the chicken and biscuit along with the hot honey sauce, it could be a great and memorable item. However, after trying the hot honey chicken biscuit, it turned out to be memorable for all of the wrong reasons. Now, I want to note that we also got a biscuit alone: It tasted great, a perfect amount of butter and toasted exactly to my liking. However, adding a chicken filet on the biscuit along with the hot honey sauce simply added a contrasting flavor to the biscuit that did not match each other at all. It felt like I was eating breakfast and lunch at the same time, and I mean that in the worst way possible. Therefore, while I do not think the biscuit tastes great at all, I will commend it for being unique and tasting unlike anything else in the fast-food market, so perhaps it will have a niche group of people that it appeals to. With that being said, I would give the biscuit a four out of 10.
Chicken and biscuit don’t match
So, there have recently been quite diverse reviews from us for Wendy’s: They have either had great sandwiches, like the jalapeño popper sandwich, or honestly quite dreadful ones, such as this one. While we’re disappointed this one did not quite meet our standards, we are hopeful that the next Wendy’s creation will blow the previous competition out of the water!
