Brandeis Women’s Tennis goes to ITA Championships at Wesleyan

On Sept. 24, Rebecca Suarez ’26 advanced to the second day of play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional competition, but had to withdraw from play after an injury. Suarez received All-UA 2023 first-team honors at #1 singles and #1 doubles in the 2022-2023 season.

Before her injury, Suarez was the seventh seed in the singles tournament, and won her first match 5-7, 7-5, 10-7. She won again in the second round 6-3, 6-0, advancing to day two of the ITA competition.

Suarez also competed in the doubles tournament, partnering with Bhakti Parwani ’25 as the fourth seed. After a first round bye, they won 8-4 in the second round and 8-7, 7-3 in the round of 16. Unfortunately, after the round of 16 match, Suarez’s injury forced her to withdraw.

In other games, Parwani fell 6-4, 4-6, 5-10 and Chahana Budhbhatti ’27 lost 1-6, 3-6. Additionally, Budhbhatti and Sabrina Loui ’24 won a first-round doubles match 8-6 and lost in the second round 8-4. Loui reached the round of 16 after winning 8-0 in her first round singles matchup, but lost 8-3 in the second round. Also, Sajana Kumar ’27 and Lika Bolkvadze ’27 won 8-4 in a doubles match in the first round before losing 8-2 in the next round.

The Judges were slated to play against Assumption College at home on Oct. 1, but that has been postponed. Following that matchup, the Judges will play again in February, when they take on Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
