From Feb. 29 to March 14, Brandeis has hosted and will continue to host Unissued Diplomas, a “global exhibition that honors the memory of 40 Ukrainian students who will never graduate because their lives were taken away by the full-scale Russian invasion that began on February 24, 2022. War continues and it means more people do not have a chance to get a degree.” The exhibition comes with the tagline “Never graduated, forever honored.”
The exhibition can be found in the Mandel Center for the Humanities and was created “to remind the world about the ongoing war and the price Ukrainians pay daily in their fight for freedom.” It is being displayed in more than 50 locations worldwide at around the same time that Brandeis’ exhibition is being displayed.
Brandeis’ display consists of several photos and short biographies (in both English and Ukranian) of Ukranian students whose “lives were brutally taken by Russian aggression.” There is also a small exhibition description, which reads in part “40 students. 40 stories. Each of them is special. Each of them is important. Each of them should be remembered.”
