Women’s soccer ranked #23 in the nation

Since the last publication, the women’s soccer team has played five games. Out of these competitive matches, the Judges won four of them and only lost one.

The Judges’ first game of this recap was their first and only home game of the season thus far. It was against rival, and neighbor, Babson College. The Judges did not let the history between them and their opponent get in their head though. That said, they were able to shut out the Babson Beavers 4-0, silencing their opponent. The Judges scored their first goal in the first half and the remaining three in the second half. The Judges’ first goal came in the 30th minute off of an assist from Laurene Creteau ’28, setting Tanvi Raju ’27 up for success. Raju was able to poke the perfectly-placed pass into the back of the Babson net with ease. The second half was quite a bit more exciting for the Judges as they scored three goals within a span of nine minutes to truly seal the deal of not only their dominance but also the win over their rivals. The first goal of this trifecta came in the 63rd minute when Sam Kipperman ’26 redirected a corner from Rachel Walter ’25, finding the back of the net. The next goal was in the 69th minute. Kipperman was involved with this one too as she fed a give-and-go ball back to Raju who found the back of the net once more. The final goal the Judges scored during this match was in the 72nd minute. This was the result of a corner from Walter that found first year Katie Collins foot, allowing her to connect with the ball and smash it into the back of the Beavers’ net.

In their next game, the Judges traveled south to face the Rhode Island College (RIC) Anchorwomen. This was another 4-0 win for the Judges, this time scoring a pair of goals in each half. The two goals in the first half were both facilitated by Walter. Just over five minutes into the game, the Judges found themselves on the board. This goal was scored by Walter who took a penalty kick that was the result of the Anchorwomen fouling first-year Judge Peterly Leroy in their box. The second goal the Judges scored was in the 40th minute. Similar to their teamwork in the previous game, Walter sent a corner soaring into the opponent’s box and Collins tapped the ball into the back of the net as she stepped in at perfect timing. The third goal for the Judges was scored by Raju who was assisted by both Kipperman and Creteau. The final goal of this game was made by the Judges in the 88th minute when Caroline Alcock capitalized on a beautiful feed from Dominique Paglia.

Moving on to their next game, this was the Judges’ first match since being named the 24th nationally ranked women’s soccer squad in Division III. This game was another four-goal game for the Judges, though they had more competition this time as their opponent, Clark University, scored once in either half. The Judges displayed their dominance from the very start of the game as all four of their goals were scored during the first half. The Judges’ first goal was made in the 12th minute by Leroy who received an assist from Raju. The second Brandeis goal was scored by Walter who sent the ball flying over the Clark keeper’s head. Next, first-year Leroy netted her second of the game in the 32nd minute. The Judges’ last goal of the game came with just seconds remaining in the first half. Walter sent a free kick into the Clark box which their keeper punched away, though that was not enough because Selena Santiago gained possession of the ball and nailed it into the opposing net.

In their most competitive match so far this season, the Judges faced #4 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA. This was unfortunately the Judge’s first loss of the season as they were not able to contain MIT for long enough. However, the Judges did score the first goal of the game and subsequently possessed the lead for some time before MIT responded with two goals to secure their win. The Judges’ goal came in the 55th minute from Raju who carried a free ball past the Engineer defense and shot it into the lower far corner of their goal. Though this was a tough loss for the Judges, it was beneficial for them to play against a highly competitive team as it challenged them and helped them improve on their prowess as they embark on another season being nationally-ranked.

In their most recent game, the Judges faced the Bridgewater State University Bears. The Judges won this match 3-1. Their first two goals were scored within the first 6:20 of the game. The first was netted by Ali Pennella ’27 who netted the ball just 81 seconds into the contest. The goal was scored as Pennella beat the Bears’ keeper in a one-on-one and subsequently found the back of the net. The second goal the Judges scored was five minutes later, and it was shot by Creteau who dribbled the ball all the way in from midfield. The Judges’ third and final goal of the match was just 2:35 into the second half. With this goal, Walter scored her third of the season with Creteau picking up the assist. With another successful win with many goals scored, the Judges have outscored their opponents 24-5 this season.

Looking ahead, the Judges will play their second home game of the season this Sunday at 1pm against Johnson & Wales.
