Since our last coverage of the teams, the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams have competed twice. First, on Sept. 21, the teams traveled to North Dartmouth to compete in the UMass Dartmouth invitational. Here, both the men’s and women’s teams placed similarly, with the women’s team coming in 16th out of 45 schools (5th in Division III) and the men’s team coming in 18th out of 44 schools (7th in Division III).
The men’s team scored 526 points. First among the judges was TJ Carleo ’26, who finished 70th overall and 15th in Division III with his time of 26:18.09. Behind Carleo was Lucas Dia ’25, who finished 96th overall and 27th in DIII. Grad student Harry Nguyen finished 111th with a time of 26:55.95. Robert King ’26 came in 150th with a time of 27:28.35. Dylan Zhao ’26 set a PR with his time of 27:32.81. His 160th place performance broke his previous PR by almost 20 seconds.
The women’s team scored a total of 528 points. Anna Batelli ’25 led the Judges with a time of 19:39.73, finishing 87th overall and 26th among DIII runners. Her performance set a personal record, beating her previous PR by 50 seconds. Just behind Batelli was Ella Warkentine ’26, who placed 89th overall and 27th in DIII with a time of 19:42.05. Kyra Au ’25 set a PR and finished 116th with her time of 20:02.36. Zada Forde ’25 placed 126th with a time of 20:10.71 and Sadie Harrow ’27 came in 139th with a time of 20:17.24
On Oct. 5, the men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Maine to participate in the Bates Invitational. The men’s team finished seventh out of 10 participating teams, while the women got fourth place.
The men’s team scored 218 points, beating the University of Maine Farmington by just two. Grad student Harry Nguyen finished 30th overall. He finished first among the Judges and set a personal record of 26:28.9, 12 seconds better than his previous PR. Dia finished shortly behind him, placing 39th. Dashiell Janicki ’25 ran for a 65th-place finish. Zhao finished with a time of 28:09.6, earning him a 90th-place finish. Ben Katsev ‘28 just made it into the top 100, finishing with a time of 28:31.6 and earning him 99th place.
Leading the women’s team was Warkentine, who set a 13-second PR and finished seventh overall with her time of 23:19.8. Forde ran for 11th place with a time of 23:29.8. She finished just ahead of Batelli, who came in 12th place. Batelli’s time of 23:36.5 was good for a six-second PR. Harrow finished in 24:19.8 to place 23rd. Kayla DiBenedetto ’25 ran her first cross country race since her freshman year, finishing 32nd with a time of 24:47.6.
Next up, the teams will compete at Connecticut College in Waterford, CT on Oct. 19 before the University Athletic Association Championships on Nov. 2 in Attleboro.
