Swim and dive opens season at Vassar College

As the fall sports begin coming to a close for the 2024 season, our winter-sport athletes have started to put all of their pre-season training on display. A recent occurrence of this is the swimming and diving team’s 2024-25 season opener this past weekend. This meet was held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The Judges came away from this dual meet with split results as the men won their side of things and the women lost. As this was the first meet of their season, this meet acted as a rust-buster for our Judges to allow the cobwebs to fade away and their training to marvelous start showing.

On the men’s side, Benjamin Lee ’27, won three individual races; the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:49.42, the 100 free in a time of 49.02 and the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:03.37. With this stellar performance, Ben was named the Brandeis male Athlete of the Week this past week.

On the men’s distance side of things, Sam Bundy ’27 won a pair of races; the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:31.65, and the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:02.63.

Judges who won single events were Riley Pasicaran ’27 in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:04.55, and Douglas Chen ’28 in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:13.53.

Last on the men’s side, they came away with the win in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:16.00, 1.18 seconds ahead of their competitor. This team was composed of Eric Xiao ’27, Tal Spector ’25, Lee ’26 and Peter Mou ’28.

Thanks to these performances, the men’s swim and dive team won the meet 142-129 over the Vassar Brewers.

On the women’s side, Chloe Gonzalez ’25 claimed a pair of victories. She won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.62, which was over three seconds faster than her competitors. Then, she won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:23.21.

Anastasia Bekou ’25 also captured a win as she swam to a 1:01.08 victory in the 100-yard backstroke.

Looking ahead, the Judges will be in Worcester, Massachusetts on Friday, Nov. 1 for a tri-meet against the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers and the Babson Beavers.
