Track and field season starts with men’s team setting new school record

The Brandeis track and field teams kicked off their season at the Reggie Poyau ’04 Memorial Invitational on Jan. 18 at the Gosman Athletic Center. The men’s team finished in fourth place with 73 points, while the women’s team placed second with 113 points.

The men’s team set the school record on the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:35.81, which was 0.47 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2016. The record-setting team consisted of Matthew Yue ’26, Danny Krigman ’25, Jordan Colon ’25 and Jon Klu ’27. Despite setting the school record, they finished sixth in the event. TJ Carleo ‘26 earned the men’s team their only win at the meet in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:33.87. Garret Rieden ’26 finished second in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:05.89, and Yue finished second in the long jump with a 6.43-meter jump.

The women’s team almost set a school record in the 4×200 relay. The team, comprised of Sarai Sealy ’28, Shaniece Nugent ’26, Jasmin Berganza ’28 and Hannah Bohbot-Dridi ’25, finished with a time of 1:45.86, just five-hundredths of a second away from the school record set in 2004. Their performance in the relay earned them first place in the event by over five seconds.

Sealy, who was participating in her first college meet, also won the triple jump event with a distance of 11.97 meters, second-best in all of Division III. She also finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.98 seconds. Alisha Anderson ’26 won the pole vault with a height of 3.55 meters, which set a personal record and is the 12th-best in Division III this season. Anderson’s performance was only four-hundredths of a meter away from another school record. Aiana Colas ’26 won the high jump with a height of 1.61 meters, which was the 14th-best in Division III. Nugent also had second-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Sadie Harrow ’27 finished second in the 3,000-meter run, while Emma Liu ’26 finished second in the 20-pound weight.

The Judges will travel to the Wheaton College Lyon Invitational on Jan. 25.
