Since our last publication, the men’s basketball team has played four games, one of which they won. Just like the women’s team, these four games were against the University of Rochester (URochester), Emory University, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). The first two games were away, and the following two games were held at home this past weekend. With just one game left in the season, the Judges went into this string of four games hoping to improve their overall season record. Unfortunately, they were only able to make a bit of progress on that goal.
The University Athletic Association (UAA) Conference Basketball League is structured to allow each team to face each other twice each season, once at home and once away. The games the Judges are playing at this point in the season are all rematches against all the teams as they have already faced them all once before.
In the Judges’ first game of this recap, they were in Rochester, NY to face the URochester Yellowjackets. This was the only game of these four that the Judges won. The game started out strong for the Judges, as they out-scored the Yellowjackets 39-31 in the first half of the game. The second half was a bit slower for the Judges as they were the ones being outscored, 35-30. Despite their weaker showing in the second half, the Judges were still victorious with a score of 69-66. A key player during this game was Sam Adusei (GRAD) who scored all of the Judges’ points in a 6-2 closing run, while also picking up three key rebounds which ultimately won the game for the Judges. Leading the Judges in points-scored during this game was Elias Rodl ’26 with 19.
In their second road game of the weekend, the Judges were located in Atlanta, GA to face the #5-ranked men’s Division III basketball team, the Emory University Eagles. Thanks to another team-leading performance in points-scored by Rodl ’26 with 27 points scored, the Judges were able to keep up with the Eagles. This was also a career-high-tying game for him in points scored. This game was so evenly matched throughout that it went to overtime. In the overtime session, the Judges seemed to lose their momentum after the first two points were scored in a pair of free-throws by Adusei (GRAD). The final score of the game was 89-83, as the Judges fell short with an 8-2 loss in the extra session to determine the game winner.
This past weekend, the Judges started off play by hosting the CWRU Spartans in a home game. This game was another uber-competitive game for the Judges as the game featured 11 lead-changes and five ties. For a game that could have also gone to overtime, the Judges ultimately fell to the Spartans 69-73 in a heartbreaking loss. Leading the Judges in point-scoring this game was Toby Harris ’25.
In the Judges’ most recent game, they hosted the CMU Tartans. Unlike their previous game, this one was high in terms of scoring. With that, this game had 26 lead-changes and 15 ties. The Judges could taste the win as the final few minutes were played, though they seemed to let up short as the Tartans had a 10-2 run over the game’s last three minutes. This cost the Judges the win, losing 91-83.
Looking ahead, the Judges will host the New York University Violets this weekend, on Saturday, March 1st at 1pm. During this game, the Judges will also be celebrating their seniors and the remarkable careers they have each had.
