After a win against Clark University on Sept. 14, Brandeis Judges Women’s Volleyball dropped four straight matches to the Simmons University Sharks (Sept. 20), the New York University (NYU) Violets (Sept. 23), the Washington University in Saint Louis (WashU) Bears (Sept. 23) and the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Spartans (Sept. 24).

In the match against Simmons University, the Judges lost 3-1, with set scores of 25-20, 25-13, 18-25 and 25-14. The Sharks were dominating the Judges in every aspect of the game, leading in hitting percentage (.287-.095), digs (54-50), kills (42-37), services aces (9-7), blocks (5-3), assists (39-35) and services aces (9-7). Notably, Judges’ head coach Alesia Bennett (Vaccari) was the Sharks’ coach for three years before she joined the Judges nearly a decade ago.

The Judges also lost, 3-0, against NYU. The Judges kept it close at the beginning of the first set, but the Violets launched a comeback to take the set. The Violets led for the entire second set, and once again staged a comeback to win the third set and seal the match. The Judges’ largest lead of the match came in the form of a 6-4 lead in the second set.

The Judges lost 3-0 to WashU, too. This match was much closer than the one against NYU, with the two teams being within a point of each other near the end of the first set. The Bears closed out the first set with several points in a row, and did the same in the next two sets to close out the match.

Lastly, the Judges fell to CWRU 3-0. The sets were close in this match, with the Judges coming within five points of victory twice. But, CWRU never trailed throughout the first set, mounted a massive 11-2 run in the second set and scored three in a row to close out the third set and the match.

Next, the Judges will travel to Roger Williams University in Rhode Island to play against the Hawks.
