As the men’s soccer team has embarked on their 2024 season journey, they are still on the hunt for their first win of the season. Their first two games were unconducive of a win as they lost one and the other remained scoreless throughout, ending the game in a tie.
In their first game of the season, the Judges traveled to Western New England University to face the Golden Bears. The game got off to a slow start as the first goal was not scored until the 32nd minute of the first half. Though the Golden Bears only scored one goal during this frame, they outscored the Judges 6-3. Their goal was the result of a penalty kick against the Judges. Despite the slow start, this goal seemingly ignited the momentum the game needed to produce more goals to come in the second half.
Following the half-time break, the Judges were hopeful to get on the board and simultaneously answer the Bears’ goal. However, the Golden Bears went on to score their second goal during the 71st minute after yet another slow first part of the half. It was not until two minutes later that the Judges scored their first and only goal of this game. It was scored by Aidan Chuang ’27, who received an assist from Josh Andrews ’26, a transfer student from The College of the Holy Cross. This was Chuang’s first collegiate goal.
As the Judges were hoping to earn an equalizing goal, they were once again scored on with only three minutes remaining in regulation time. With this insurance goal, the Golden Bears solidified their 3-1 win against the Judges.
Looking at the stats, the Judges were outshot 17-10 by the Golden Bears. The record books also show that the Judges had a 3-0-3 record against Western New England University going into this game.
Following the first game of the season, the Judges were hopeful to earn a win in their home-opener against Suffolk University. This game was held on September 1st. Unfortunately, the Judges were unable to find the back of the net. Luckily, nor were the Rams.
After the first half, the shots were even at 3-3, though the Judges only had one promising look that was on target.
After the break, the Judges upped the aggression and ended up edging out the Rams in shots 7-6 in the second half.
Despite the game concluding with a final score of 0-0, this was a good opportunity for the Judges’ defense to perform under high-stress conditions.
The Judges’ goalie, Quintin Wrabley ’25, also had his fifth shutout game after this match.
Looking ahead, the Judges will travel up to Poughkeepsie, New York to face Vassar College on September 7th.
