Brandeis cross country attends Connecticut College Invitational

On Oct. 19, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Waterford, Connecticut to attend the Connecticut College Invitational. This was the Judges’ fourth cross country meet of the 2024 season. 

The women’s team ran a 6K race and scored 732 points, earning them 26th place out of 37 teams. Leading the Judges was Anna Batelli ’25, who set a personal record (PR) with her time of 23:10.3, which earned her 113th place out of 250 runners. Kayla DiBenedetto ’25 placed 132nd with her time of 23:20.5, which also beat her previous PR by more than a minute. Kyra Au ’25 finished in 167th with a time of 23:59.5. Shortly behind her was Sadie Harrow ’27 with a time of 24:08.3, earning her a 173rd-place finish. Katriona Briggs ’27 finished with a time of 24:24.1 to earn 191st place. The women’s team beat Roger Williams and finished three points behind Westfield State. 

The men’s team ran an 8K race. They scored 603 points, finishing 20th out of 32 teams. Lucas Dia ’25 was the only Judge to finish in the top 100, completing the course in 26:01.2 and earning 96th place. This was also a PR for him. Harry Nguyen (GRAD) also set a PR, finishing 108th with a time of 26:06.7. TJ Carleo ’26 finished 130th with a time of 26:28.1. Dashiell Janicki ’25 ran for a time of 26:59.9 to earn 169th place. Dylan Zhao ’26 was shortly behind, coming in 173rd with a time of 27:04.8 and a 176th-place finish.

Coming up, the Judges will be hosting the UAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2. The event will take place at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. The women’s race will begin at 11 a.m. while the men’s race will begin at 12. The Judges will be hoping to do better than last year, when both the men’s and women’s teams finished in last place.
