In the Senate, March 7

Vice President Krupa Sourirajan ’23 proposed repurposing the form used to send messages on Kindness Day to instead send messages of appreciation to the faculty and staff during appreciation week. 

Sourirajan also proposed a mock graduation event where seniors would have the opportunity to walk the stage, despite having a virtual commencement. 

Chair of the Social Justice and Diversity Committee Noah Risley ’24 and Kevin Mani ’24 of the Social Justice and Diversity Committee announced that they finalized the list of art they will be publishing and presenting inside the Shapiro Campus Center (SCC). 

Risley discussed possible events for the committee to run, such as bringing in a guest speaker. Another idea mentioned was an initiative for each senator to interview a female Brandeis employee and use quotes to highlight their story through another installation within the SCC. 

Chair of the Dining Committee Ashna Kelkar ’24 discussed working on a new pasta station within Sherman Dining Hall. Kelkar mentioned that new utensil dispensers will be installed in the dining halls in two weeks. 

Courtney Thurn ’22, Chair of the Services and Outreach Committee, announced the cancellation of the St. Patrick’s Day event due to Sodexo’s inability to provide cookies needed for the event.

Executive and Class of 2022 Senator Joseph Coles ’22 of the Club Support Committee introduced to the Senate the new club support Instagram. Its purpose is to highlight certain clubs and promote their events.

Chair of the Sustainability Committee Jesse Zucker ’21 and Selah Bickel ’24 of the Senate Sustainability Committee discussed a potential Earth Day event where sustainability activists on campus can discuss what sustainability efforts on campus look like and what they could become. They also spoke to the promotion of meatless Mondays on social media and possible ways to make the BranVan more sustainable. 

During the open forum, Sourirajan proposed ideas for the Midnight Buffet, such as giving out bucket hats and sunglasses. She proposed that senators help in creating clues for the Midnight Buffet scavenger hunt. Bickel proposed sustainable options for the Midnight Buffet, such as recyclable utensils and reusing extra t-shirts from last year.

Sourirajan discussed a collaboration with the Campus Activities Board on a campus-wide egg hunt later in the semester.
