Baseball
A lawsuit is currently underway over who owns baseball statistics. Major League Baseball says that they own all of the statistics. A company that runs leagues for fantasy sports is arguing that once a game ends, those statistics become historical facts that can be used to power fantasy games.

Bruce Sutter will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this coming summer. Over a twelve-year career, he recorded 300 saves and had a 2.83 ERA. Sutter will enter with a Cardinals cap on his plaque.

Alex Rodriguez will play for the U.S.A. in the World Baseball Classic.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays traded Danys Baez and Lance Carter to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Edwin Jackson and Chuck Tiffany.

Football
Shaun Alexander will be ready to play in the NFC Championship game after sustaining concussion in last weeks game.

The new head coach for the New York Jets is Eric Mangini. Mangini spent the last few years as the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. Mangini was an assistant for the Jets in the late 90s before leaving with Belichick for New England in 2000. Mangini is now the youngest head coach in the NFL.

The New Orleans Saints will sign Sean Payton, the current Dallas offensive coordinator, to be their new head coach.

Basketball
LeBron James is officially on the team that will represent the USA in the World Championships this year in Japan and the Olympics in 2008. Jerry Colangelo, the director for USA basketball, plans to announce the rest of the 20-man training camp roster after the all-star break. Dukes Mike Krzyzewski is already confirmed as the teams head coach.

Seattles Ray Allen was suspended for three games by the NBA for a brawl with Orlandos Keyon Dooling, who was suspended for five games.

Tracy McGrady is out with back spasms. As of Tuesday, Houston is 0-11 in games without McGrady.

New York's Stephon Marbury injured his left shoulder on Monday against Minnesota and will miss a week or two with the injury.

Phoenix's Amare Stoudamires return has been pushed back to March at best.
New Jersey's Jeff McInnis will miss two months following surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.

Hockey
Petr Sykora was traded to the New York Rangers and scored four points in his first two games.
