The Heller School for Social Policy and Management has announced the appointment of a new Dean, Lisa M. Lynch, effective as of July of next year. Lynch’s appointment ends a two-year search to fill the position.

Administrators are looking forward to Lynch’s presence next year. Heller School Dean Stuart Altman mentioned in an administrative email list, “Lisa brings extraordinary vision and exceptional talents to the Heller School. I look forward to working with her both in the upcoming transition period and in the years ahead.”

“Professor Lynch brings a stellar academic career, seasoned administrative experience, and national prominence to the Heller School,” said Provost Marty Krauss in an email to The Hoot. “We are thrilled that she has accepted our offer to be the next ‘builder Dean’ of the Heller School. I am eagerly looking forward to working with her, as is the entire Heller community.”

Lynch currently teaches International Economic Affairs at Tufts University at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. In addition, she also serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Chair of the American Economics Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in the economics profession.

Lynch has done extensive research regarding such topics as investment in job training and post-graduate career searches, and has played a key role in creating policies by analyzing a variety of social issues with an overall economic analysis.

After graduating as an economics and political science major from Wellesley College, Lynch earned a Ph.D. at the London School of Economics. Lynch also worked in the U.S. Department of Labor for two years and previously held office as the Academic Dean of the Fletcher School.

Currently, the Heller School is chaired by Professor Thomas Shapiro and assisted by Isaacson Miller and Associates. Prior to Lynch’s arrival, an interim dean will fill the position.
