Volleyball falls to Rivier

The Brandeis women’s volleyball team played Rivier College, ranked 12th in New England, at home in Auerback Arena. The Judges dropped the game to Rivier in three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-22. The loss moves the Judges’ record to 7-16.

The Judges came out strong against a tough opponent, keeping the game close until the Rivier Raiders went on a nine-point streak, gaining a lead the Judges couldn’t get back. The Judges followed the same pattern in the second set, tying Rivier at 6-6 before their opponent went on a 6-point run. Rivier tried to put the game away in the third set, scoring 10 of the first 11 points. However, the Judges weren’t going to give up that easily, chipping away at the lead until they tied the score at 18-18 off two back-to-back kills and a block from Emma Bartlett ’20. The Judges stayed within a point until the score reached 22-21 before Rivier secured the set and therefore the game, 25-22. Bartlett and Grace Krumpack ’19 tied for most kills for the team at four each. Seven of these combined eight came in the third set. However, Jessie Moore ’18 led the Judges in the first two sets, with three kills. Marlee Nork ’19 set for the Judges, logging 14 assists, while Yvette Cho ’19 held up the Judges on the defensive end with 11 digs.

The Brandeis women’s volleyball team finishes their home schedule this Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29 against Roger Williams at 12 p.m. and against Babson at 4 p.m. in Auerbach Arena in Gosman Athletic Center. The Judges finish up their season with two games in November at Washington University at St. Louis as part of the UAA championship.
