Women’s soccer pushes past Lasell 4-0

This past Sunday, the Brandeis women’s soccer team secured a combined shutout to defeat rival Lasell College 4-0 while extending their unbeaten record to 2-0, following their win against MIT on Saturday.

Brandeis took control of the game quickly, with senior forward Julia Matson ’19 opening the scoring in just the 14th minute. For her second goal of the season, Katie Hayes ’20 finished a flawless pass through the box from classmate Emma Spector ’20. Later, the Judges celebrated sophomore midfielder Daria Bakhtiari ’21, who scored off of her own rebound. To close out the score at 4-0, senior Julia Jaffe ’19 laid in a cross from rookie Juliette Carreiro ’22.

The Judges, ranked 25th, outshot the Lasers 40-2 with 21 shots on goal, contributing to their average of 3.50 goals per game. To increase the advantage, Brandeis saw five corner kicks to Lasell’s one. Junior goalies Sierra Dana ’20 and Victoria Richardson ’20 saw little action in net, who each played a half.

Following the win, the Judges welcomed seven-year-old Annelizabeth Jean-Baptiste via Team IMPACT to their team. Women’s soccer joins several other teams of Brandeis Athletics in the Team IMPACT family including men’s soccer, baseball and softball.

The Boston nonprofit, Team IMPACT, connects children with serious illnesses with collegiate-level athletic teams. These relationships have enhanced thousands of children’s lives and created positive, life-changing outcomes. When the child joins the team, they support each other through adversity both on and off the field.

Brandeis returns to their home field this Saturday afternoon to play against Johnson & Wales University at 1 p.m.
