Track and field hit the lanes running

The indoor track and field season has begun for the NCAA and Brandeis’ track and field team started the season off on the right foot with the team splitting up for two meets on the same day. The first races of the season saw the Judges split as a majority of the team traveled into Boston to the Reggie Lewis Center to compete at the Suffolk Relays while others ventured a little further into the city to compete at Boston University.

At the Suffolk Relays, the women’s and men’s side overall both had tremendous performances at this rust-buster relay with the women’s side scoring 52 points. Enough for them to secure fourth place overall at the relays and first place among all Division III schools at the relay. On the men’s side, they scored 35 points which placed them at sixth overall and as one of the top Division III men’s sides at the event.

Leading the women’s side at Suffolk was team captain Victoria Morrongiello ’23 who placed first in the 1000 meter with a time of 3:16.97, Zada Forde ’25 who in the 3000 meter came in first place with a time of 10:49.71 and in the 4×400 meter relay Elizabeth Korn ’24, Alya Campbell ’24, Yahni Lapa ’23 and Hannah Bohbot-Dridi ’25 who all finished in first place with a time of 4:27.23.

Kirsten Man ’25 in the triple jump was able to get fourth place with a distance of 10.23 meters.

Emma Liu ’26 came in fifth place in the 20-pound weight throw with a throw distance of 10.92 meters.

Korn in the 400 meter reached sixth place with a time of 1:02.12 as well as Alya Campbell who came in sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.77.

Bohbot-Dridi in the 400 meters came in seventh place with a time of 1:02.13 just behind her teammate. Ella Warkentine ’26 came in seventh as well in the mile with a time of 5:22.11. So did Kyra Au, who in the 3000 meter came in seventh place at 11:34.54.

Calli Morvay ’26 scored as well for the Judges in the 3000 meter, coming in eighth place with a time of 11:44.51.

As for the men’s side at the Suffolk Relays. In the 4×400 meter relay Leo Schiappa ’26, TJ Showstead 26’, Dylan Whalen ’25 and Young Wang ’24 came in second place together with a time of 3:40.49.

Ori Slotky ’24 placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.77 meters.

Dion Morris-Evans ’23 placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.80 seconds, but fourth in the high jump with a distance of 1.90 meters.

Whalen came in fifth on his own in the 1000-meter with a time of 2:45.60.

Lin Lin Hutchinson ’25 came in fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 11.30 meters.

Danny Krigman ’25 finished in seventh place in the 60 meter with a time of 7.22 seconds. Zachary Reynolds ’23 also came in seventh place in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 12.65 meters.

Jonathan Hau ’23 came in just behind his teammate in the 35-pound weight throw in eighth place with a distance of 11.68 meters.

Both sides performed well at the Suffolk Relays, as did their teammates at Boston University.

On the women’s side Lizzy Reynolds ’24 ran the mile to come in 24th place with a time of 5:29.20. Juliette Intrieri ’24 ran the 3000 meters coming in 68th place with a time of 10:30.43. For the men Garret Rieden ’26 raced in the mile and finished in 18th place with a time of 4:27.72. Samuel Kim ’24, in the same event was a few places behind Rieden, coming in 27th place with a time of 4:40.96. Lucas Dia ’25 came in 63rd place in the 3000 meter with a time of 9:03.56.
