Women’s volleyball falls to Tufts

On Oct. 17, at Brandeis’ Red Auerbach Arena, the Judges’ women’s volleyball team lost to the Tufts University Jumbos 1-3.

The Judges won the first set after battling through multiple lead changes, and neither team was able to mount a significant advantage until the end of the set. But the Judges pulled ahead with a six-point rally before closing out the set 25-19.

Then, the Jumbos took the third set after leading the whole way. They got out to an early lead, holding an 8-3 advantage over the Judges, and never looked back. The Jumbos maintained their lead before winning the set 25-19.

The third set was reminiscent of the first, with a few lead changes in the early portion of the set. The Judges held an 11-8 lead that was turned into an 11-14 deficit, which was again turned into a 19-6 lead. But as the set came to a close, the Jumbos finished strong and won 25-21.

In the match’s final set, the Jumbos again jumped out to an early lead and maintained it throughout. The Jumbos led 5-1 early, and converted that early advantage to a 20-9 lead later. The Judges fought hard, but the Jumbos closed out the set 25-18.

Anna Ertischek ’26 led the Judges in kills, Gracie Lerian ’24 led the team in aces, Tatiana Wainer ’25 led in blocks, Julia Liang ’26 led in assists and Ella Pereira ’23 led in digs.

Next up, the Judges will face the Emerson Lions on Oct. 20 before hosting a University Athletic Association (UAA) round robin tournament on Oct. 22.
