To acquire wisdom, one must observe

November is now

We are now a little over halfway through the school semester, but there are still a lot of big things coming up in the time we have left, which is slightly under a month and a half. For starters, many of you are probably in the thick of, or finishing, up our midterms. We at The Hoot wish you all of the luck on all of the academic endeavors. Study hard, get plenty of rest and eat some well-balanced meals. If you believe in yourself, you can accomplish your goals and do a fantastic job on any midterm that comes your way. In addition, something else coming up at Brandeis is the addition of a new president. As of today, Dr. Arthur Levine ’70 is the interim president of Brandeis University, following Ron Liebowitz stepping down after eight years in office. We would like to give Levine a warm welcome to our campus and we hope he enjoys his time as president. This new presidency will mark a new chapter for this university, a chapter that we hope goes swimmingly. There likely will not be many big changes in the short time we have left in this semester, but anything can happen. Here’s to hoping at least some progress is made in these coming months. Then, along with new developments happening at Brandeis, there are also developments happening in this country. Nov. 3 is the end of Daylight Savings Time and we are falling back. So remember to move our clocks back when the day comes. You will also get to have another hour of sleep due to the time falling back, so enjoy that extra hour because it only happens once a year. Considering all of the stress that may be happening due to midterms, you deserve that extra hour. Sleep is one of the most important activities that a person can do. Of course, it is not the most important activity that you can do. What is an activity that you can do that is more important than sleeping? One answer to that question is voting, which brings us to something else important coming up this month. Perhaps you have heard of a certain presidential election coming up? Election day is coming up on Nov. 5, with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump facing off to be the next President of the United States. Since The Hoot is not a group of cowards run by billionaires, unlike The Los Angeles Times or The Washington Post, we are fully endorsing Harris for the presidency. Four more years of Trump is not what this country needs. So if you have a voice, use it. Vote to help our country thrive and to protect yourself and the people around you. We have our fingers crossed that there will be a positive outcome. Whatever the result may be, it will likely be on people’s minds for a while. After that, barring the schoolwork mentioned before, the upcoming weeks should be relatively chill, besides picking classes on Nov. 19 (choose wisely and quickly; the decision will determine how you spend your life in the spring). Through all of this imminent time, we will be counting down the days until Thanksgiving break, when we get to relax and eat good food with our loved ones. After everthing that has been happening in school and the country, we deserve the break, especially before finals. Here’s to a new month and the second half of the semester; anything can happen and we hope you are ready for whatever happens next.
