Before this dance is through

Theres something indescribable about the movement of dance. Watching someone who finds dance natural, the sublime, easy coordination is visual magic to the beholder. God knows how it must feel to the dancer;

she couldnt imagine, as dancing never felt natural to her. Still, she longed to know that sensation of effortless movement, and the certainty that any random man would ask her to dance the moment she found herself unaccompanied. Imagine

Brokeback Mountain: movie of the year?

I enjoy watching cowboy films.

Whats not to like? We have our good guys and our bad guys. We are transplanted into a time period and setting that is presumably far simpler, more tranquil than our everyday lives. In Ang Lees Brokeback Mountain, the cowboy setting is a diversion from the hardships of the characters everyday lives.

Game, Set…Match Point?

There are movies out there that are intentionally bizarre. Movies that try to confuse you, or that are so bad, so out there, theyre almost good.

Message to a mythical musical master

New York City. New Orleans. Detroit. Seattle. Los Angeles. History has shown that all of these cities have played a role in the development of distinctly American music, with each city offering a breeding ground to culturally magnificent and unique sounds. As time continually marches by, theres one little northwestern city that hopes to join the ranks in the pantheon of American musical birthing grounds: Portland, Oregon. The seemingly inconspicuous city in a relatively un-noteworthy state for pop culture, with the exception of everyones favorite game known as the Oregon Trail, Portland is proving to be a strong enough basin for ingenious musicians in this country. In fact, one of indie rocks most pivotal musicians of the past decade began his musical journey in the middle of a budding Portland music scene;

that musician is the widely beloved Elliott Smith.

Physics Apnea: Why Im so proud to be a college student

Are you proud to be a college student? What I mean is, do you wake up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat, scratching yourself in various unsanitary places, wondering where you are and smelling like a pizza/vodka smoothie? And who IS that in my bed?

BEMCo not called during Heller threat

Sources from within the Brandeis Emergency Medical Corps (BEMCo) have claimed that the Department of Public Safety violated campus emergency protocol by failing to activate the campus EMTs during the Jan. 18 terrorist threat on the Heller School.
Not once was BEMCo notified [of the threat], said Elan Schefflein 06, who acts as BEMCos director and one of their two clinical supervisors. We found out through the campus-wide e-mail, eight hours later.

Senioritis and college basketball

Im going to start this column by making a few assumptions. First, the majority of those people reading this column are either in college, or have at the very least graduated high school. My next assumption is that since many of them have graduated high school, a large percentage of my readers know about the disease known as senioritis. This being my second senior yearnot in college folks, one in high school, one in college, thats a total of twoI consider myself an expert on the topic.

Slavin’s game plan

This Sundays 40th Super Bowl, being held in Detroit, should be another great game, as the physical defense and running game of the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks, with their impressive ground attack. The two teams havent faced each other since November of 2003, a time when both were radically different, and not nearly as respected across the league.

Coffee Land vs. Steel City

This Sunday is the Super Bowl, and I have to be honest, this is probably the least thrilling match-up Ive seen since Oakland-Tampa Bay, and even that had the whole “Jon Grudens old team versus his new team” storyline working in its favor.

One on One with Coach Meehan

On Defense:

We felt we needed to be more aggressive and physical defensively and really put a body on those guys. I think if you cause some turnovers down in the post and they seem to get a little frustrated, that turned into some easy scoring opportunities for us….

Something about Steve DeLuca and Sunday afternoons.

For the second consecutive Sunday afternoon the sophomore stud registered a career high 28 points, this time on nine for twelve shooting from the floor and a near flawless nine for ten from the charity stripe.

NBA Midseason Review: heavy trade winds

Every team has reached 41 games played and the trading deadline is approaching. In the coming weeks, trades that will change the looks of many teams will occur.
