Into the Woods not your momma's fairy tale

Apparently the Disney World theme park had it right: it is a small world after all, or at least the world of Into the Woods is. Tympanium Euphoriums production of Stephen Sondheims play unites various fairy tale characters, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Jack of Jack and the Beanstalk, in a intricate plot that shows that happily ever after is just the end of Act I.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Movie Film for fans only

Walking into the Embassy, Walthams very own independent movie theater, with my best male and female friends (appropriately from New Jersey), I began to worry that cute little Stacey might not like the movie we tricked her into seeing. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters (or ATHFCMFFT) was, to say the least, hard to follow for even the most obsessive Aqua Teen fan.

Everythings (not so) cool

Following an introduction at this years Sundance Film Festival, activist-director Judith Helfand premiered her new film, Everythings Cool, to the Brandeis community Tuesday night. The documentary is an exploration of the past three-and-a-half years of environmental action and the dramatic shift in public opinion about global warming since 2003.

NishNash rather nifty

In the past, ordering out has often resulted in confusion and misinterpretation. Ordering food over the phone is more popular now than ever, as over fifty percent of all restaurant business is done off-premises. Being put on hold, not having a menu handy to pick out the coveted dish and giving out the proper directions for delivery can often result in a headache for both orderer and the restaurant itself. A website created by two former Brandeis students, Dan Peguine 06 and Adam Gries 06, in December 2005, NishNash.com, seeks to remedy these problems. Upon graduating from Brandeis, Peguine and Gries made [managing] NishNash a full-time job. The site allows users to peruse menus of various restaurants in the Boston area, order food online, read reviews and avoid the telephone call entirely, at no extra charge.

Go and 'see' The Lookout

With a smart script, interesting camera angles, and solid performances, The Lookout is a mesmerizing crime drama. Aside from a couple of missteps, its film-noir elements both effectively enthrall and disturb the senses.

Prayer for a millennium

Come, friends, and, in the closing light of day,
take up the brick and set it while you may;

and thus, in laying brick on brick, assemble
the future now, and its foundation lay…

Oh, snap! Youve got to be kidding me

What still gives you the giddy sense of wonder and excitement you had as a little kid? Hypersonic jets? Men on the moon? Ultra-fast trains levitated by magnets? How about flying cars? Not too many things, Ill bet.

Imagine what the view might be like from the 142nd floor of a glass skyscraper. Imagine taking the fastest elevator in the world to get there. Picture a needle-shaped structure with between 163 and 216 floors. The height: From 2600 to over 3000 feet;

the exact figures are being kept secret. This is real…

Schwartzbaum gives State of the Union

Outgoing Student Union President Alison Schwartzbaum '08 gave her final State of the Union address Monday night in the Shapiro Atrium. Highlighting the best of an eventful semester, Schwartzbaum heralded her administrations successes working with the school and the faculty to change portions of Brandeis policy and aesthetics. Among projects initiated by the administration was the now-defunct Campaign for Peace, an organization intended to “to meet with students planning events with a potential to polarize and divide members of our community… and to build student capacity for dialogue,” founded shortly after former President Jimmy Carter visited campus in January. Schwartzbaum felt that “that the Campaign for Peace brought our low tolerance for real debate of meaningful issues, to the forefront of the Student Union's agenda. I hope that the Union will continue to find appropriate ways to create a more open, tolerant campus.”

Brandeis tennis teams face mixed results over weekend

Although the womens tennis match against Colby College was canceled this past Sunday, both the mens and womens tennis teams were able to compete this weekend. The women were able to claim a victory over Mount Holyoke on Saturday in a 6-3 victory. The men, however, were defeated by their opponents this past Sunday by falling to Boston College 1 to 6. This late-season play was against strong opponents, decent competition, and saw the performances of numerous individual standouts.

Baseball can’t hold lead, fall 6-5

Pete Varney was in a rage. Bottom of the ninth and no outs, Brandeis down by one, catcher Artie Posch 10 appeared to be in position to score the equalizing run only to be called out at second on a steal attempt. It was a highly questionable call, especially since the shortstop did not have the ball. Varneys protests however fell on deaf ears and he was quickly tossed. Two fly outs to right field provided the disappointing capstone to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Johnson & Wales
It was certainly not the way Brandeis wanted to finish this game that began on crisp Thursday afternoon to a crowd of around 100 or so some odd people some to watch the game, most for the free ice cream. As the temperatures dropped along with attendance, the game heated up.

‘Deis softball team drops third straight

After three straight rain outs, Brandeis softball took the field and picked up where they left off falling flat against Curry 6-0. On top of their April 14 double header sweep at the hands of Amherst drops the Judges back to .500 (14-14).
