Women’s soccer continues the streak

The Brandeis University women’s soccer team came out hot on Saturday, Sept. 13 against UMass Boston. The Judges shot early and often, keeping up their intensity throughout the game to earn themselves the win over the UMass Boston Beacons. The team’s aggressive attitude caused the Beacons’ defense to sweat.

The Judges had no problem acquiring an early lead in the first half, with two goals already clocked in at halftime. The Judges offense outshot the defense 13-0. However, it was only Cidney Moscovich ’17 and Holly Szafran ’16 who could convert shots into goals. The first goal came at the 15-minute mark, when Samantha Schwartz ’18 assisted Moscovich in a brilliant shot past the keeper. The Judges doubled the score when Sapir Edalati ’15 snuck past her defender to make a perfect pass to Szafran. She headed the ball in, for the second goal of the game at the 18-minute mark.

The Judges’ defense stood just as strong, shutting down the Beacons’ offense. The Beacons had no shots in the first half. They tried to come back in the second half, with three attempted goals. Yet they were shut down by goalie Michelle Savuto ’15. Savuto had three saves during Saturday’s game.

The Judges never lost focus or succumbed to complacency. The team kept up aggressive play the whole game, constantly increasing the pressure on the Beacons. Just when the game looked to be over, Moscovich slipped another goal past the Beacons’ goalie. There was a mere three minutes left in the game. This made it a to 3-0 victory for the Judges. This final goal sealed the deal for the Judges, and they earned their fourth straight win. The Judges out-performed their opponents in every aspect of the game, racking up a final shot count of 28-3 in favor of the Judges.

The Judges also played another game on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in which they bounded into their fifth-straight win by defeating Gordon College 4-0. This was the second straight shutout for the Judges. For this game, the Judges outshot the competition by a 32-5 margin.

The Judges will return to play Lesley University this Saturday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m.
