New members join president’s office staff

Four new members, William R. O’Reilly, Carol Onorato, Meghan Alvarez de Sotomayor and Orla O’Brien, have been appointed as staff to the Office of the President, according to an email sent out by President Liebowitz on June 4.

Prior to coming to Brandeis, O’Reilly was a partner at the law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. From 2004 to 2017, O’Reilly was also a member of Tufts University Board of Trustees and is serving on Tufts University Hillel Board of Directors. He also served as the president of the Tufts University Alumni Association for two years.

O’Reilly completed his undergraduate studies at Tufts University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He went on to graduate magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law School. In his position as chief of staff to the president, O’Reilly will provide strategic and analytical support for President Liebowitz, spearhead the office’s responses and actions and manage university planning processes, Liebowitz said in the email.

Onorato began her job as the senior executive assistant to President Liebowitz on April 17. She has been an executive assistant for professionals in various public and private organizations, including the Princeton Review.

Alvarez de Sotomayor joined the president’s faculty on Feb. 1 as executive administrator. She helps with various administrative duties and research support. Alvarez de Sotomayor also serves as a part-time executive assistant to President Liebowitz when Onorato is unavailable.

Before coming to Brandeis, Alvarez de Sotomayor was at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation, where she was the assistant to the chief of cognitive neurology.

O’Brien had previously left the Office of Institutional Advancement at Brandeis to focus on other projects but has since returned, while maintaining administrative responsibilities within the Board of Trustees. She is also the new special assistant and assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees, as well as the supervisor in charge of planned giving and donations. She began her job on July 1.
