SSIS advice column

Welcome back to the Student Sexuality Information Service (SSIS) column, where we answer any and all of Brandeis students’ questions about sex, sexuality, identity and relationships. If you have a question you’d like answered in our next column, email ssis@brandeis.edu or leave a question in the Google Form link on our Facebook page. (Note: These answers are good-faith attempts by SSIS to be helpful to the Brandeis community and are by no means exhaustive or to be taken as universal. If these answers don’t resonate with you, either pay them no mind or reach out to us with suggestions for improvement!)

I saw some flyers around campus about your upcoming event “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.” What is this event about? I think I might like to go, but I’m not sure what to expect.

Thank you for writing in! Our fall workshop, “Kiss Me Thru the Phone: an SSIS Workshop on Tech and Sex,” is focused on the intersection of sexuality and technology. Since this event is hosted in the cozy SSIS office, you can expect a small workshop environment with plenty of topics to choose from! We are also inaugurating what we call “Spicy Levels” at this workshop. This refers to varying levels of comfort regarding sexual topics. For instance, if you aren’t looking for explicit information about sexuality, we recommend sticking to the “Mild” level of spice. If, however, you are looking for more explicit information on sexuality, we recommend the “Medium” or “Spicy” levels. With these spice levels, we hope to make our workshops more accommodating to all levels of comfort.

At the workshop, we will have different stations dedicated to sexting, video sex, online dating, long distance relationships, pornography and masturbation and taking nudes as well as keeping them safe. If you’re interested in learning how to use technology to enhance your sex life, this is likely the workshop for you! Since there are so many different stations, feel free to visit any and all of them or just a specific few. The stations will dive into more specific topics like love languages, long distance relationship date ideas, a fun photo booth and how to set up a dating profile. There will be plenty of fun activities to break the ice and make the experience as accessible as possible, and each station will have resources that you can take away with you and bring home!
Join us in SCC 328 (all the way up and to the back!) on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a fun and informative time! If you have any suggestions for information you’d like us to cover, please text (586)-ASK-SSIS or email ssis@brandeis.edu.
