Executive Senator Joseph Coles ’22 announced that Vice President Krupa Sourirajan ’23 would not be in attendance at the meeting. He also announced that the Chief Justice Jack Ranucci ’22, co-treasurer Emma Greszes ’21 and the Director of Academic Affairs Jeremiah Lemelson ’23 left between semesters. Sophia Reis ’22 will serve as the new chief justice, and there will be special elections held for a new associate justice. Coles also told the Senate that President Kendal Chapman ’22 is going to appoint a new treasurer, while the position of director of academic affairs will not be filled this semester.
The Senate voted on Senator Ben Topol’s ’24 Facilities, Housing and Transportation Committee Bylaw, which was passed by the Senate. The bylaw expands the Facilities and Housing Committee to include transportation under its jurisdiction.
Bishal Baral ’23, the Student Union director of technology, told the Senate that he is working on updating the website and asked senators to provide him with necessary information for it.
The Dining Committee reported that they discussed sustainability: They are trying to get compostable bags into dining halls. Regarding the dispensers for single use utensils, they are trying to see if they can be compostable. There will also be kosher smoothies coming in next week. There is now also a weighing machine in the kitchen, so the dining staff can see how much waste they are producing.
The Social Justice Committee reported that they are looking at the responses from the first-years’ survey and are getting ready for women’s history month. They are planning on spotlighting women at Brandeis through their Instagram.
The Health and Safety Committee reported that they are trying to find out what happened to missing condom dispensers, however, it appears as though facilities are not aware of what occurred.
The Community Enhancement and Emergency Fund (CEEF) reported that they are looking at the number of masks they still have and whether they need to distribute more. They also plan on doing more advertising for CEEF.
The Services and Outreach Committee reported that they started planning the scavenger hunt for Midnight Buffet.
The Club Support Committee said that they met with Student Activities and discussed what they will be doing this semester. The Facilities and Housing Committee is sending out a survey about the laundry services at Brandeis and discussed goals they have for improving the BranVan. The Senate Sustainability Committee is looking into getting a residence hall composting system.
The Allocations Board discussed marathon details, which will run March 26 to April 9. They have not yet decided if they are using Presence or Slate.
