Univ. announces The Legacy of Louis project

The university announced the start of a new initiative—The Legacy of Louis: Inspiring Inquiry. The Brandeis National Committee made the release on their website talking about the initial stages of the project.

The Legacy of Louis: Inspiring Inquiry was announced leading up to the university’s 75th anniversary, which will be in 2023. The project is intended to empower its community to become, “scholars, creators and innovators through the creation of two interactive additions to the Library,” according to the Brandeis National Committee page.

The initiative is broken down into two main parts, according to the page. The first part of the initiative is the creation of a new research archive containing original letters, photograph documents and family items, according to the page. The items in the archive “shed light on the life and the lasting contributions of Justice Louis D. Brandeis,” reads the page.

The second part of the initiative is to create an addition to the Brandeis Library; according to the page, the university will establish a new Judaica reading room. The reading room will provide community members with a space where they can explore and “engage with Jewish texts outside of the classroom and religious environments,” according to the page. The room will also have “writings from cultural and religious traditions from around the world, [and] the room will serve scholars and students alike,” according to the page.

The project is funded by the Brandeis National Committee and has been a part of philanthropic projects on campus for the past 75 years, according to the page. The committee “continues to support the mission and principles which Brandeis was founded on,” according to the page.

The university announced the release of the project with more information and opportunities to follow soon.
