Judges take off at River Hawk Invitational at New Balance

For the third meet of the indoor track and field season, the Judges traveled to The Track at New Balance for the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawk Invitational. The two-day meet was not scored and the women competed on Friday while the men competed on Saturday. The men competed against all divisions of NCAA teams at this meet.

 

Beginning with the women’s side, eight Judges finished with season bests. Yahni Lapa ’23 had the team’s best finish by placing 10th in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:22.65. Bridget Pickard ’23, coming in with the team’s second best result, finished in 12th place in the mile run with a time of 5:20.70, setting a new personal record for the runner. Ella Warkentine ’26 was 16th in the mile with a time of 5:23.35, just a few seconds behind Pickard. Alya Campbell ’24 turned in the team’s final top-20 performance in running events, by placing 19th in the 60m hurdles in 9.35 seconds. Smiley Huynh ’24 was 20th in the pole vault with a height of 3.06 meters.

 

The Judges also had a number of notable performances from Friday’s invitational. Campbell came in 32nd in the 200 meter with a time of 26.82 seconds. Liz Korn ’24 ran 1:00.95 in the 400 meter to come in 24th place. Victoria Morrongiello ’23 placed 34th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:26.18. In the high jump, Kirsten Man ’25 came in 29th by jumping 1.45 meters. In the shot put Emma Liu ’26 threw 8.87 meters to place 47th. Lapa, Hannah Bohbot-Dridi ’25, Morrongiello and Korn finished 13th in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:10.23, also a season high for the team.

 

But the Judges’ performance at the Riverhawk Invitational did not end there, with top finishes coming in from other races as well. Bohbot-Dridi in the 400-meter finished in 25th place with a time of 1:01.25, less than a second behind Korn, who finished 24th. Korn also came in 47th in the 200-meter with a time of 27.46 seconds. Teammate Devin Hiltunen ’23 was only a few places behind in 51st with a time of 27.73 seconds. In the 3000-meter, three Judges finished within 20 seconds of each other: Katie Lyon ’25 finished in 28th with a time of 11:12.74, Katriona Briggs ’26 right behind Lyon in 29th with a time of 11:16.37 and Calli Morvay ’26 in 32nd with a time of 11:30.31. All three Judges in the 3000-meter ran new personal records. In the triple jump, Shaniece Nugent ’25 finished in 23rd with a distance of 10.36 meters, and Kirsten Man ’25 in 31st with a distance of 9.71 meters. Huynh, also competing in pole vault, finished in 20th with a height of 3.06 meters.

 

The results from the men’s side were just as successful as seven Judges had season-best performances, including the team’s highest finish of the weekend. Matthew Driben ’23 had the team’s top performance, finishing sixth in the 5000-meter with a time of 15:05.30; this was both a season-best for the team and a career-best time for Driben. Daniel Frost ’25 also achieved a new personal record in the 5,000 meter with a time of 16:34.36, landing him in 31st place. Ori Slotky ’24 had a season-best performance in the triple jump with a distance of 11.83 meters, getting him into 13th place. Lin Lin Hutchinson ’25 was 16th in the event, just a few spots behind his fellow Judge, at 11.23 meters. Dion Morris-Evans ’23, despite not achieving a season best this meet, was able to bring in three top-20 finishes. He was 18th in the high jump (1.76 meters), 19th in the long jump (6.01 meters) and 20th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.93 seconds).

 

However, some season-best performances in individual races came from TJ Carleo ’26 in the mile (24th, 4:24.73), setting a new personal record; Sam Kim ’24 in the 800-meter run (26th, 1:58.07) and Danny Krigman ’25 in the 200-meter dash (78th, 23.68 seconds). Carleo, Kim, Krigman and Leo Schiappa ’26 combined for the team’s best run of the 4×400 meter relay of the season, placing 15th with a time of 3:31.30. Cam Peirce ’25 finished with a season-best performance in the shot put, coming in 39th with a throw of 12.10 meters.

 

Other notable performances on the men’s side include Jonathan Hau ’25 placing 38th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.44 meters. Teammate Zachary Reynolds ’23 coming in a few places behind in 40th with a distance of 12.17 meters. In the long jump three Judges finished one after the other with Slotky coming in 23rd at a distance of 5.84 meters, Hutchinson at 24th with a distance of 5.78 meters and Parker Jones ’25 behind the other two in 25th with a distance of 5.77 meters. TJ Showstead ’26 came in 34th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32 seconds. Danny Krigman ’25 came in 47th with a time of 7.37 seconds, just ahead of teammate Matthew Yue ’26 in the 60-meter, who came in 70th with a time of 7.61 seconds. In the mile Willem Goff ’25 placed 34th with a time of 4:29.51 (a new personal record for him) and teammate Ethan Meilander ’25 who placed 53rd, also setting a new personal record at 4:46.03. In the men’s 800-meter Taylor Diamond ’23 finished in 45th with a time of 2:08.17. Dylan Zhao ’26 set a new personal record in the 1000 meter by coming in 32nd with a time of 2:45.12. In the 200-meter Schiappa finished in 80th but set a new personal record of 23.75 seconds and fellow Judge Jones just a place behind him in 81st with a time of 23.76 seconds.

 

Next weekend the Judges will travel to Tufts University for the Cupid Invitational and their fourth meet of the season.
