Travis Henry was suspended for four weeks for violating the leagues substance abuse program.
Last weeks game for the New York Jets proved fatal for the team. Franchise Quarterback Chad Pennington suffered a shoulder injury and will miss the rest of the season. Dr. James Andrews discovered that his rotator cuff may not be torn as originally thought. Backup quarterback Jay Fiedler suffered a dislocated shoulder and will miss at least six weeks and possibly the entire season.
However, the Jets have moved on. Brooks Bollinger will start for the Jets this week. Bollinger has nine career attempted passes. The Jets have also brought back Vinny Testaverde for a second stint with the team and they hope he will take over later this season as the QB.
Basketball
Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, and Jermaine ONeal have all been sentenced to one year probation for their parts in the infamous brawl last November. Each must also accomplish 60 hours of community service, pay a $250 fine, and take anger management counseling.
Hockey
After several months of uncertainty and knuckle puck-like events, Pavel Datsyuk has signed a two-year deal with Detroit. He had been rumored to be heading to Russia, but after two teams contested their rights to him, Datsyuk decided to stay with Detroit.
Boxing
Leavander Johnson died last week due to a brain injury he sustained while defending his lightweight championship the week before. Minutes after losing to Jesus Chavez in the 11th round of the title match, Johnson collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where he was put into a coma. The 35-year-old Johnson has been pro for 16 years and sports a 34-5-2 with 26 knockouts.
