Womens tennis finished their second to last match of the fall season on a sour note, dropped like a Bjorn Borg shot, 2-7 by MIT. The loss drops the Judges to 2-3 and now has only the Hewitt Tournament next week to try to rectify their season.

The MIT match started out well for the Judges as the number one pairing of Jenicka Hornung 07 and Ana Katz 08 and the number three pairing of Ariana Sanai 10 and Elizabeth Adamov 08 took their matches 8-6 and 8-2 respectively in doubles play. Whatever momentum that was gained in the doubles match was lost in singles play. Only Sanai in the number three match won a set as she took the first against opponent Yi Wang before dropping the next two 2-6, 2-10. Hornung nearly forced a third set in the number five match but fell 6-7 in a close match. The rest of the Judges failed to get more than three points in the rest of the matches.

Although the singles play was lacking, Coach Ben Lamanna was pleased with the progress made over doubles play, Thats one thing we focus on a lot, is doubles. Thats one thing we can control right off the bat, I know that singles is a lot of match ups and stuff but its good that we did pretty well in doubles because we focus on that a lot and that was going to be a key to our season.

The MIT match represented an improvement compared to the abysmal showing the past weekend at home against Bowdoin, losing everything 0-9. Two doubles matches ended in Bowdoin shut outs and no Judge forced a third set in individual play.

We just cant ever give up and lose faith like we did a little bit against Bowdoin. We kind of stopped fighting and you got to continue to fight, got to continue to believe that you can beat them, that we can beat someone ranked higher. Coach Lamanna said. This never give up mentality would be key, he explained, as the Judges prepare for the Hewitt Invitational where they finished fifth out of over 20 colleges last year. The loss drops the Judges to 2-3, MIT is 7-1.
