Three Brandeis fencers saw their season extend for a few more matches as Kai Keller 07, Will Friedman 09 and Caitlin Kozel 09 were all selected to represent Brandeis at the NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championship.
Keller makes his third and final appearance at the NCAAs after only missing it in his junior year. A key member of the epee squad, he finished seventh in the northeast regional championships at Tufts and led the team in wins as he posted a 26-11 record against varsity foes. Keller has won Fencer of the Week three times this season to go along with his individual achievements. As a whole, the epee squad dominated this season and earned Brandeiss first IFA weapons championship.
Picking up where his strong rookie season left off, Will Friedman returns to the NCAAs after going 24-10 which was the highest winning percentage on the team. He earned the last automatic bid after finishing 10th overall in the regional championship. Among other hilights this season, his 10-0 record gave the mens foil squad the victory at the New England Fencing Championship.
Kozel is the lone womens representative after finishing seventh overall in the northeast regional and posted a 27-20 record this year. She finished with a 10-2 record at the New England Fencing Championship which helped push the Judges to a second place finish.
The men finished the season with a combined record of 16-5 while the women finished 13-12.
